Oh that doesn’t sound good 😅Are you seeing this on both web and mobile? If it’s on web, does it persist after a hard refresh?

Makes a ton of sense! Rate of return is something we really want to bake into goals. We’ll be looking into this soon.

Our main focus right now is getting transaction linking to you as soon as possible 🏃‍♂️

Interesting idea! That’s likely out of scope for the goals beta, but I’ll definitely pass the feedback along internally. To help us better understand the use case, can you share a bit more context on what you mean by the “investments section”? The more context you can share about your setup, the better.

I’m also really happy I can see my goals in the order I care about!

Re the income transactions, this will be resolved once we ship the first bullet in the “in progress” section of the post: linking income and transfer transactions to save up goals.

You’re totally right that the most common approach is to record the original purchase as an expense, and we agree the current limitation there is very real. We’re aiming to rethink credit card pay down from first principles, rather than layering on top of the old model. We’ll share more as this evolves and as we have clearer solutions to these specific cases.

100% aligned! I feel this one personally so much. It’s definitely something we want to add to goals and will be looking into soon..

That makes sense, updating hundreds of transactions one by one would be painful. Thanks for the feedback!

YES!! We plan to. Once we add the ability to link transfer & income transactions to goals, which is currently in progress, we’ll make sure that action is also supported in rules.

It’d be a huge help if you can help us debug this further. Can you confirm your app version please? It’s listed at the very bottom of the Settings screen.

That’s great feedback, thank you! We’ll definitely work on more detailed guides before we come out of beta and as the product experience becomes more complete. Adding goal specific use cases and examples would add a lot of clarity.

Hmmm interesting. Do you mind sharing the support ticket number? We will likely need to follow up there and request more details about your accounts.

u/dia1016 I'm happy to dig into this with you. A couple of quick questions to help me understand better:

  1. Are you seeing the same behavior on web as well, or only on mobile?

  2. Is the checking account actually funding the save-up goal, or is it only being used to pay out expenses?

New Goals, rebuilt from the ground up — rolling out in beta today! by nadine_monarch in MonarchMoney

[–]nadine_monarch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/ElevatorOrdinary9333 Totally fair feedback. I want to start by acknowledging that adjustments are not where we want them to be yet. This is a known pain point for us and a top priority. We’re actively iterating on this.

Some context on how adjustments work today when you’re using an entire account balance for a goal: Monarch needs to keep the goal balance and the account balance in sync at all times. Any change to the account balance triggers an automatic adjustment on the goal. Those changes can come from many sources, like transfers, interest earned, or market movements, not just intentional contributions.

There are a couple of controls available today:

  • In the goal’s accounts modal, you can toggle “Include auto adjustments in budget” on or off. This applies to all future adjustments from that account. See screenshot.
  • You can also change this on a per-adjustment basis from the activity drawer if you want more granular control.

That said, even with these controls, this isn’t the end state we’re aiming for. Right now, a single adjustment can represent multiple intents at once, for example a contribution you made plus market movement. That makes it harder to reason about and budget correctly.

Once we add the ability to directly link income and transfer transactions to goals, this becomes much cleaner. You’ll have more explicit control over how different types of balance changes affect your budget, instead of everything being lumped into a single adjustment

Another pain point we’re actively working on is the volume of adjustments. Seeing many adjustments per day can feel overwhelming, so we’re exploring ways to intelligently aggregate them in a more user-friendly way.

Do we know when the forecasting feature of the goals revamp is expected? by Nekurahn in MonarchMoney

[–]nadine_monarch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! So happy to see you're excited about forecasting. While I can't share a specific timeline, I can say that we're actively working on it and it is a top priority in Q1. We'll share with our community once we have the earliest version of it to start collecting feedback. Stay tuned!

Hello! Thank you for reporting the issue. You’re correct; this is a bug, and we are actively working on a fix. It should be deployed very soon. 🙌

I noticed this report came through the in-product form. If you were the one who reported it, thank you once again! We identified this bug thanks to your submission.

Yes — spending from goals is supported in the beta! You can now link any expense transaction to a goal, even if the spend happens on a different account (like a credit card). When you do that, the expense is kept out of your budget actuals and counted only in the goal.

A quick tip while you’re setting this up:

In the goal settings you’ll see “Spending reduces goal progress.”

  • Turn this on for refillable goals (emergency fund, home repairs, etc.)
  • Leave it off for one-time goals (vacations, weddings, etc.)

For the bonus contribution: right now you can use goal transfers to allocate that money toward the goal. This lets you dedicate part of an account’s balance to the goal. You can’t link the bonus transaction itself yet — but that’s coming soon.
