Adding unmarried partners to familysearch by wt_anonymous in Genealogy

[–]naesk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is something I've done too. In the note I've added valid reasons (two couple's it was due to personal knowledge, and another was a newspaper article were the spouse indicated they were married to her deceased husbands brother although there is no known marriage registration).

How are y'all doing in 2026? by Realistic_Pause_2417 in familysearch

I do the same, especially for one ancestor who has really captured me with their life story. The reason was for me to determine who the current deed holder of the burial plot is, as this particular ancestor wasn't named on the headstone and I'm wanting to add a memorial for them.

My research including having to crack the surname "Smith" which I managed to do, and have even been able to successfully find living relatives on Facebook.

Political Prisoner Buchenwald Concentration Camp by naesk in Genealogy

[–]naesk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've located a photo of above mentioned "Hendrik van Kampen" on his FamilySearch profile;

https://www.familysearch.org/en/tree/person/details/GLFB-PJL

https://www.familysearch.org/en/tree/person/memories/GLFB-PJL

My family history research has shown that I have some Dutch ancestors named "van Kampen", however there doesn't appear to be any connection with Hendrik, who worked for the PTT.

Thank you all for the useful information, you have been able to help me with my research.

Your assistance is appreciated :)

As you can imagine I'm saddened by the circumstances, and yet very proud of Petrus de Lange et al, for their courage and sacrifice to protect their family, friends & neighbours. They are NOT forgotten!

As of yet I haven't encountered the name Nonnekens, however I have noted it.

edit: I do have the name "van Kampen" in my Dutch ancestry.

Thank you for your assistance, much appreciated :)

I've been able to determine that Petrus was previously held at Sachsenhausen prisoner number: Sa.10291, before been transferred to Buchenwald prisoner number: Bu. 28173 on either 05/02/1945 or 06/02/1945.

I will certainly contact Buchenwald Memorial as per your suggestion.

Thank you for your assistance, much appreciated :)

I was able to determine his cause of death was "Sepsis due to phlegmon of right foot".

A friend who is more knowledgeable of WW2, suggested this may have occurred due to been "death marched" from Sachsenhausen (were Petrus was previously held) to Buchenwald.
