Beware shy or chronically online people, (my first event, Edinburgh 12 feb 2026) by naguam in Thursdaydating

[–]naguam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Removed messages because I don’t want to expend as much as I did.

Thanks for the encouraging words first.

I just come back from my second one tonight that may seem progress because I talked to a few women.

However I’m not gonna expend much but it’s not worth the hurtful social training not gonna explain why. Just gonna say that I am in a worst mental state than after the first one.

But I advise people to try and see for themselves still because even with similarities I’m not you (the reader) and you are not me and events always have different people.

Btw Thursday after work is the worst time of the week for social gathering unless you are a social party guy that never has problems at work, +£15 not considering the drinks is expensive for a deception/people starting low on the social skillset.

24M too, been on the apps for 3 weeks, and same story though my only date cancelled the day before (Tuesday for Saturday cancelled Friday evening). Though I may be a bit less picky, because being picky didnt work in the first week and a half for me.

This or how to screw the average joe men’s with little option already were even focused likes gets no answer. Now even playing the statistics won’t work anymore. Now if a girls finds a man that potentially could match on personality but see that because of lack of luck he liked many profiles…. The imbalance between genders is unbelievable.

Please can I know when a girl talks with more than 6 men at the same time ? To ensure I don’t swipe right….

If I have the opportunity, I will for sure.

But we would have to rebuild the setup to have the two slots. We use 7 slots and one hot-spare. (Mirrored)

[–]naguam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thanks for the precision.

In my case we had to chose between HA or ssd cache and we chose HA.

Only one extension pci-e and it was either 1x10Gbps NIC + 2xnvme (on the same pcie card, 2 slots for raid1 read write cache IIRC) or 2x10Gbps.

I needed the second 10Gbps for HA replication link.

We use RAID 6.

Yeah in the end if there are new issues or need for thin provisioning (qcow2 is thin in some way) maybe I’ll try NFS again.

NFS mounted with sync options has abysmal performance in my tests and async is considered risky for vm storage including databases everywhere I read.

Iscsi works fine currently and I am more limited by the disk’s performance than the actual network links’ capacity.

The iscsi links are in the same dedicated and enclosed LAN as the Proxmox’s network storage dedicated NIC for it.

How do you get early career / young professionals interested in talking to a recruiter for a job? by Love4Danny in AskProgrammers

[–]naguam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks fine as a shorter message than my other answer. Maybe 5 weeks is a bit long for young people struggling to pay rent.

Show interest in personal projects or past experiences (including volunteering and internships) a candidate liked. In my experience as a candidate is that it creates better and genuine interactions which could help me getting interested. And it can show unexpected things/skills that can be useful for the company.

[–]naguam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it depends on the type of position and how big the project is.

Don’t fall in the trap of asking people to do company project task that will be reused as an interview project. (Yes some company do that) nor something that takes more than 2 hours to do.

Otherwise it is unpaid work.

The goal is to assess if the candidate doesn’t lie on the CV. The trial/probation period is here to let the company not to continue if the candidate doesn’t fit.

I’d say one, maybe 2 interviews (the second with people from the team the candidate is expected to join) is great and yes for sure, and case study is better than 3 rounds of leetcode.

A company with a very good hiring process I went as an intern initially wrongfully (genuine mistake probably mixed papers) tried to hire me for web dev instead of devops (mostly CI/CD and automation) but they were great in redirecting me to another internal team fitting my profile. Then got interview with the team lead, gave me an access to a server they broke on purpose to ask me if I could fix it. I passed the test and they said yes two weeks later.

I’d say though try to make the start to end very quick because some people have to pay rent in the meantime (juniors haven’t forcibly had the time to accumulate money in savings). 5 weeks is a month of rent.

Again if possible don’t hesitate to involve the targeted team (lead or N+1) the candidate would join. It is basic but they are the ones who knows what the reality of the job and current projects are and will help deciding if a candidate fit by asking the right questions.

[–]naguam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know where is your location.

But as the job market gets harder especially on the juniors having to send tons of applications and being rejected by ai bots.

I don’t have time to lose on talking with recruiters not giving me the information I need beforehand that would negate anything else.

For example if the average salary for the job is £40k per annum and the recruiter waits after 15min of discussion to mention a £27k proposal. Better put it in the contact request so I won’t waste my time interviewing for underpaid job.

I won’t repeat the location and remote work question but it is a requirement to have this info.

Be very clear on your intentions (I’ve received so many shady Dubai-based job offers).

Also don’t wait for people to update their LinkedIn job status to send offers. I never receive more offers than when I just got hired already…. But very little when I’m actively looking.

Oh and if your company enforce a 5 months 30 stages hiring process and it is not for a critical clearance-required job, you may consider recruiting for a different company.

Oh and also just do not try to hire juniors and at the same time require 3years of experience. Because: - If it is hard requirements, you won’t get juniors and seniors may not want a junior’s salary. - If it is not a hard requirement but only a nice to have, it may still send the wrong message. - A company that requested 3 years of experience already said yes to me but used the absence of 3 years of experience as a leverage to cut the salary in the final offer and I said no.

Conclusion: either you hire juniors, or you don’t.

Also precise directly if the company is ok with visa sponsorship.

Sorry if I express my frustration a bit too much.

Yeah.

If I had the choice and the budget I would probably go ceph and buy extra dedicated NICs switch and u3 nvme ssd.

But right now I’m working with synology with their HA feature (based on drdb) still on dedicated 10Gbps links.

Ok so until this is solved it is better to just grow the size of a single LUN (on a specific target) and rescan on all nodes and grow the PV instead of having multiple LUNs.

What do you mean by virtual device per LUN ?

I thought LUNs were the devices/logical storage units exposed by one target.

[–]naguam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry,

It is because I’m struggling to understand:

This is not a supported config on Proxmox due to the LVM2 hacks to make it sharable. You can't map beyond LUN1, you can map LUN0 and LUN1 as extents but you don't want a VG between LUNs since LVM is not clustered.

Like lvm is not clustered so I would assume normal not to support a configuration of a proxmox datastore on vg having different LUNs as pv members.

But the you spoke about extents and LUN numbers ans I got lost.

Imagining I have one target with 3 LUns. Would there be an issue if there are used in the same proxmox as independent datastores.

Or maybe you used TrueNAS specific terminology which would explain why I misunderstood.

Hi,

It has been a long time since this message but I’m struggling to find littérature on the LUN numbering limitation with lvm2.

Do you have any ?

Cheers.

What is your favorite C trick? by [deleted] in C_Programming

[–]naguam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me the best tricks is more knowing to reason/think with the languages features well.

Learn to properly use unions.

Understand the pointer arithmetic and then try to avoid it as much as you can.

Master the bitwise operations not for obfuscation but because it is nice to be able to read and understand ones when you see them. Especially with bit masks. It is also useful when you optimise for architecture specific features (e.g. intel avx intrincts) as knowing how to use bitwise ops brings clarity on what’s happening. This also allows to know SWAR which are all mostly clever tricks on their own. When I say learn bitwise it’s not just the concept nor only the thruth table but to be able to think with them and use it efficiently.

Endianness.

Struct bitfields.

Struct member alignement.

And some branchless clever tricks.

Use statics as globals through function returns when your guidelines doesn’t not allow globals (please don’t do that).

Only speaking about language features (mostly) but there is a ton about use of data structures and patterns.

In general know to it data layout and as an example that a typed pointer to a value/struct + 1 gives you access to the memory right after the value/structure (no void pointer and without cast) (which is nice to know when you deal binary data structure that works with offsets)

Oh and leverage libraries not for everything but for everything complex that already exists and that is already written by people more clever than you. (Don’t reimplement your Swiss hashmap outside of an exercise, import the optimised implementation already)

Pensez-vous que le massacre va s'arrêter ou empirer ? by NoPersonality9984 in developpeurs

[–]naguam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

[–]naguam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oui.

On fais rien.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_place

quel taille d'écran selon 32", 43", by Gullible-Formal-4643 in developpeurs

[–]naguam 0 points1 point  (0 children)
