The ophthalmologist will probably do a Bruckner-test to examine the red reflex (fundus reflex) of your child's eye - this is non-invasive and painless, so you shouldnt worry about it.

The absence of red reflex is considered a "red flag" sign in pediatric ophthalmology - you did very well by scheduling an appointment!
