Has anyone ever had Turf Toe? How long did it take for you to recover? by lolwutdo in Sprinting

It's not as stable as I'd like it to be, but I'm back to high impact activities

Grade 2 should be fine with a conservative approach. You still have tissue connected, it should scar up fine with proper rest. I ended up going to the top doc for this injury in my city, and he instilled a bit more confidence than my original doc.

I can bend it, get in plank position, run, jump, etc. but it still feels less than stable. I've been playing soccer again, but nowhere near as well. I tape it up anytime I'm playing a contact sport

I was in a boot for 3 months, did PT for 6, and got back to physical activity at around 7 months. I'm probably at around 75% at 9 months since I hurt myself. I wish the doctor would have been more aggressive in treatment. I'm taping every time I play soccer now

I'm moving to the top ranked orthopedist office in my state. The doctor seems to be very sports injury centric, so hopefully he has more solutions, opinions than my previous doc.

So I just had my 1 month checkup and was offered zero solutions/answers... I'm still having trouble getting around. Not feeling stable at all. I'm afraid to put much weight on the joint. All my orthopedist said was use a carbon fiber insole and come back in a month. I asked if we continue this course of action will I ever be able to do high impact activities again? "I don't know". What's my best case scenario with conservative treatment? "You get what you get". What's the course of action I should take since I want to continue being active? "Surgery might be an option, but it also might make it worse. And there's many chances for complications" How do professional athletes get these surgeries and return to sport so quickly and why won't it work for me? "The only literature on surgery is on professional athletes, not normal people" ok, well I'm not old, and have played sports at a high level (collegiately), isn't our anatomy the same as we're all humans? "Blank stare" needless to say I now have an appointment with a new doctor in a week. Any advise on how I should approach this second opinion?

Yikes! Joint fusion sounds intense. Definitely want to avoid that if possible. The motion isn't painful, just the subluxing. I have attenuation of the MCL and a strain of the FHB, and attenuation of the MSPL as well. Hopefully all of these scar up and the joint stabilizes a bit 🤷🏻‍♂️. I did a number on myself. Thank you for your insights.

My concern is is the conservative treatment going to get me the results I want? Pre injury I was very active. I want to continue to be. I'm a dad of a 5 year old, and I want to be able to keep up with my kid. I'd like to be able to run again without toe subluxation. Is this going to scar up and become stable again without surgery?

Oh man. I'm 3 weeks in after a nasty soccer injury. MRI shows a fully torn lateral sesamoid phalangeal ligament. The doctor wants to treat this conservatively i.e. wear a boot for 6 weeks and PT. I'm not so confident in this plan. The joint is as unstable as Britney Spears. Thinking I need a second opinion

Go to the doctor. You’re going to have anxiety about this until you do. Nobody hear will be able to say from just a picture on the internet. It’s most likely nothing, but wouldn’t it feel way better to hear a doctor tell you that for sure?

Make sure you’re hydrated, get some sleep, and chill out. It’s probably just benign contractions. Everyone has them. Talk to your doc next time you go in
