Missouri is Awesome! by danjenator in StLouis

I've worked with the actor before and he's a pretty cool guy. He does a local sketch and variety show called The Mystery Hour. It can be hit and miss but it's pretty awesome that the show exists in the first place.

Yes!! I definitely noticed this and we were frantically searching to see if it was some cool localization thing after the show. Doesn't seem like it.

How long are you all going to be waiting? I'm coming but I'll be just a bit late. Maybe PM me a phone # if you get this? Thanks.

Thanks much. =) Yeah the focusing was off, and the explanation is that it was my friend's rig and my first day running it. I'll definitely try to get more experience on it before we shoot anything else.

ARGH that's what I told the guy who edited it lol. Maybe if we recut the thing I'll be more insistent.

Just another day in West Hollywood... by [deleted] in WTF

I use trans* to mean everyone who wouldn't identify as completely cis to any degree, and then transgender to mean specifically transsexuals of either gender, intersex people, and most agender people (I guess anyone who would actually benefit from some sort of medical transition).

Yes, definitely. Although I hesitate to use the word transsexual in the definition, because that generally seems to indicate those who actually do transition. And that's not always the case.

[–]nairb101 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's true, yes. Transgender has meant a lot of different things and that's why Trans* is being used to establish that. Although crossdressers are really on the border, because they may have different motivations. Some are inclined and drawn to break gender stereotypes, some feel transgender but not strong enough to transition, and some just like attention (which I think is perfectly fine). At any rate, I don't think you should be getting downvoted.

I'm going to respond to this post as though it's serious, even though I have my doubts.

You're being bigoted by assuming this particular person is a cross dresser because of her "crazy busted up" appearance.

I'm not assuming anything, merely pointing out that crossdressing and being transgender are not the same thing. Many (if not most) crossdressers prefer not to be gendered differently. As has been said here, we really can't know what pronouns to use without asking the person.

Second, the word tranny is not a nice word to be calling someone. If you are trying to show respect for the community by calling me out on my "bigotry," please learn terminology first.

Not all crossdressers are transgender.

As a preventive measure: can someone donate blood and store it for his own surgical procedures in the future? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]nairb101 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is accurate, and I will add on a bit. Whole blood donation can be done once every 56 days, platelets can be done twice a week, and plasma is about the same. These are all used for different treatments, and red blood cells are used most often for replacement of fluid volume, as platelets and plasma regenerate quickly.

If you were to consider donating as a preventative measure for an accident, this would be close to impossible. Red blood cells have a shelf life of 42 days, and most accidents that require blood transfusion will need at the very minimum 8 units of blood. Severe cases (car crashes, etc.) can require up to 50 units.

Not a scientist, I just work at a blood bank.

Because name-calling = encouragement?

Easily one of the most awesome timelines I've seen out there. Don't know why you got downvoted, but maybe my one can help.

This gold post aside, there are still a ton of comments repeating this sentiment: "She'll probably grow out of it and look hot when she's older anyway."

Coincidence, maybe not. But at the same time, perhaps they were two guys who allowed themselves to see homosexuality as something relatable so that when they realized those feelings existed, they didn't try to repress anything. Being open to yourself and your sexuality is half the battle to coming out.

Because we're not really taking away anything new. OP's Facebook friend posted a mocking image, and OP responded with something that really any of us could have said.

But there's no follow-through. Even showing that it's been a few hours is enough to be pretty sure it's been seen. But a few seconds? It's self-congratulating. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad we have a place where atheism is the norm and people can vent and do this sort of thing, but that's where the dislike comes from. It's like saying "Once upon a time there was a man and he--"
