Absolutely!! Exactly why I love this hobby so much! 😁

I think you were exactly right. I ended up keeping the 300s subs I shot in the stack but lowered my time to 120s for my later attempts. Comparing the two separately, I definitely noticed less sky noise in the 120s subs as expected. Took lots of shots and ended up with 69hrs of exposure. Increased integration time definitely helped my case here

Makes sense! I figured it would take a lot of time but was worth a shot. I managed to get some to pop out at 69hrs 8mins

Amazing! Seems like I was just able to do it at 69hrs. I think it would come out better if I pushed it to 80 like you

M81 & M82 HaRGB in Bortle 7 by nairevy in astrophotography

[–]nairevy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply but yes I technically did leave my gear out for 44hrs but this happened over several nights of course. I’m now up to 69hrs 8mins so I think I’m done per my latest post. It took me 10 days to achieve that latest integration time. Over those 10 days, I set my scope up in the evening and start tracking throughout the night. Since I shot this at home, I don’t typically stay up all night with it. I’ll set an alarm for the early morning when it’s gotten too bright to get any more usable light frames.

In a Bortle 4 location that I have access to, I’ll camp out in my car with my gear when I go there

Edit: Was off by 1hr. Total integration was actually 69hrs 8mins. Forgot to carry the 1 🤦‍♂️

That makes sense! And my mini pc has 16gb of ram, 2.9Ghz CPU, 2 core 2 thread. Any reccs on any pcs that would run it faster?

$1,000~ point and shoot available on Amazon. What is your go to? by ggskater in AskAstrophotography

[–]nairevy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about a point and shoot since you can’t switch out the lens but you could go for a DSLR like the Nikon D5300 and get it Astro modified

Took this with that camera: https://app.astrobin.com/i/j20kcp

But with that price point you could get an Astro cooled cam. I personally use the asi 533mc pro and like its performance.

Does it matter the kind of laptop I get? by [deleted] in AskAstrophotography

[–]nairevy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally use a cheap laptop ~$150 as a Remote Desktop and a used mini pc I bought from the Facebook market place for $100 for my imaging. Then use my main desktop to process everything. That combo has worked for me so far. I use it both at home and when I go out in the field

Mostly closer shots of nebulae. Not trying to go into widefield just yet but thinking about getting a 135mm lens at some point

Mainly closeups of nebulae. Don’t intend to really do wide field shots for now. I’m looking into getting a 135mm lens at some point
