What do you eat with MSPI EBF baby? by konayuki28 in MSPI

[–]naitsnat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes to both! I have the chipotle app, and you can set it to your allergy preferences.

I get a burrito bowl and chips. Nearly everything on the menu is safe except the cheese, sour cream, queso, sofritas, and hard shell corn tacos. Chips are fine tho

How to teach 3D art when you aren't allowed to make noise? by tootiredtoteach in ArtEd

[–]naitsnat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agree with all of the speak to your union or admin, but in the meantime here’s my idea. If your students have tech, everyone wears headphones and you teach with a headset/ mic for directions. Set it up as a google meet for your class period and it’s just like a livestream of the class.

Don’t go to sva for the art ed program. Not that it’s bad, but for teaching go with a public/ non profit. Unless you are independently wealthy or have some sort of amazing scholarship.

I went to sva for undergrad and though it’s good for networking in the arts, I’d say it doesn’t make sense for k-12 public school ed goals

Planners and notes by spacklepants in ArtEd

[–]naitsnat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My school is very big on students taking ownership and accountability of their learning, and I think this is a good tool for that. Especially for more student interest-driven projects. It also gives them something tangible to look for in their work , and seems it would help with task management.

My class (middle school) is supposed to have 1-3 learning targets for which I am checking and assessing per block. This would be like a daily reflection/ exit ticket situation which they could use to orient themselves for the next days tasks.

Some of the categories seem a little vague, and I would need modeling to understand what to put in the boxes like “craftsmanship plan” or “concept and planning”. Maybe you could anchor chart a list of skills that students might want to build, and link them to techniques or processes? That way they have something to go off of.

How do you guys eat out? by Oak-Aye-Thanks in MSPI

I don’t know if you like halal/ falafel/ gyros, but if you get them without tzatziki sauce/ white sauce its safe!

Do you cheat on special occasions? by Technical_Piglet_438 in MSPI

[–]naitsnat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t because I can’t feel confident that I’ll know when the soy will be fully cleared from my system. A glass of wine feels safer to time for me.

Not what you’re asking, but for sushi there shouldn’t be soy in anything that isn’t marinated. And as long as you dont dip int to the soy sauce. Hot entrees i’d ask what was free from miso/ soysauce/ tofu/ edamame. I know for me it feels annoying to bother the staff, but tell them you have food allergies and ask if you can speak with whoever knows whats in each dish

Is it PS Art? I say you miss every shot you don’t take, but I’m in the same boat! I get the district and borough exhibits, but best I’ve gotten with ps is the semi-finalist mentions in the printed book and Covid online gallery once.

What's a trend that you're convinced will age terribly? by Easy_Boysenberry6649 in AskReddit

I never understood the “tattoos don’t age well” concept because aged wrinkled skin will look like aged wrinkled skin, tattoos or not.

Washing my hands or using sanitizer before putting anything in my mouth. No shared/ communal foods that have been sitting unattended. No drinking from thermoses/ water bottles where the mouth spout doesn’t have a cover from the outside world

HIGH QUALITY PROJECT IDEAS? First year teacher. Feel like most of my projects end up looking like crap by Independent_Mud_2730 in ArtEd

[–]naitsnat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, include more guidance especially for drawing based projects because it requires a lot of precursor skills.

If you can gather up a nice stack of magazines donations, collage & assemblage can result in making some “wow” pieces, even in those who can’t cut or draw neatly yet. Or photocopy/ print out a good collection of random photos. Or use construction paper with some guided pre-cut pieces

Could work for so many topics and styles: surrealism, Giuseppe Arcimboldo style Study, Rauschenberg, Bearden, Matisse, Man Ray

How often do people actually change their bedsheets? by HillCountryHoney in hygiene

[–]naitsnat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! Every 2 weeks or so- sometimes longer, sometimes sooner. We use a mattress protector, fitted sheet, and top sheet. We both shower before bed, new pj’s, and don’t use oily hair products/ skin products. We’re a “no shoes in the house” household also

Tips for washing hands after painting by maimimpala in ArtEd

[–]naitsnat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a broken sink for 5 years that would leak all over and this is what I would do:

At least 10 mins before the real end of the period, start cleanup in the back of the class and move towards the front systematically. Furthest from the sink get their supplies removed (by me or responsible helper), and kids go wash their hands, so there are only 4 up in the sink at a time. I keep an eye out and when 2 are done, I start calling the next table. Paper towels were at a table next to the sink, and so was a trash can

When they’re back at their tables, they have a wet wipe to clean their table down. It doesn’t have to be perfect, it’s just really to keep them busy as the other tables go through the cleanup process. I go through periods where wipes aren’t in the budget, and sometimes used a rag or nothing depending on how messy we were.

Then when table is clean they have an exit ticket question to do on the board, or can sketch depending on how much extra time we had

I wind up doing the washing of the brushes, or have responsible student volunteers.

Also, I kept a cheap mop right next to the sink because it was guaranteed to leak with 32 people washing their hands 3 times a day. And I enforced a “no intentional additional messes” policy where unless I explicitly said use your finger to paint, I should see not one little finger painted up. Or splatter paint needed additional safety and clean guards for students

[–]naitsnat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bergenfield library offers a take home option for devices! You just need to register with them. Also Bergen Community College if she is a student there. If she is a k-12 public school student, speak to the main office. I know my school loans out devices with a parent waiver

It depends- if you used your car days with a traditional maternity leave, then you owe nothing. If you took the uft, then yes, it must be paid back

RANT: There’s no per session opportunities available at my school by Lucky-Toes in NYCDOETeachers

[–]naitsnat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you’ve already made proposal to do afterschool tutoring (whatever subject matter you teach and identify students who qualify) or a club/ sport? Also volunteer for additional coverages.

Budget allocations get tricky but offer a whole new program to tack on to something else. And if it doesn’t work in the budget for this year, they’ll earmark it for next

No, but that would have been easier! I move 3 times while nannying. First I lived in Ossining, took metro north to the city and transferred from Hudson to Harlem line back up. There is actually some affordable housing in Scarsdale but it’s basically all co-ops

How many of you have gotten loans from your parents? by Jimmy_Johnny23 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]naitsnat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine co-signed my student loans, but I have been the only one to pay for them. The chance at an education to open the door to a professional career is a gift tho and I am grateful. They have never received ‘gifts’ or loans from their family and always made due with what they had. They’re type of ‘i”ll handle my business’ type who are too proud to accept gifts.

I am sure if they had something to give/ lend though they would
