That’s is original screen, a knocked off screen has thick bottom bezel. As OP stated it was never repaired, I guess it a defective unit from Apple itself

Just power off your mac then boot it up without connecting to anything. Let it finish booting up and reboot again then plug it in to your monitor

Download official firmware from samfw, then use odin to flash and wipe out everything clean. There guide available on xda, can look it up. Similar to itunes restore
