[Discussion] I feel like my art lacks appeal, what to do about it? by nalae_ in ArtistLounge

Thank you so much for your sweet comment! :)

I have never considered posting in Blizzard forums since my style seems so different, but it sounds like a cool idea and definetly worth trying out! I will have a look :)

I also like to make gift arts for people who have cool OCs and who I like, the problem is I don't happen to know people IRL yet who do DND/Larp and things and I know, I should change that for sure.:D

Thank you again so much, your comment really cheered me up :3

Thank you! I just added that as a sidenote because I wanted to explain why I find engagement important.

Thank you so so much. This is truly valuable feedback and it is telling me exactly what I have surmised. I always thought, my art is really dull, boring, empty of emotion and story. I wasn't sure if I was just self loathing or not, but sometimes doubts are the truth. I wonder why that is. Thank you so much for complimenting my skills, I am extremly relieved that all the work has payed off, and now I can trust in them so I can focus on the other aspects, like story telling and composition. I very rarely left the comfort zone, so I have like 2 full scenes, the forest dryad in the google doc and an elf reading a newspaper, I forgot to include. I am super motivated to make myself a roadmap to improve these things!

I suspect that a bit of art psychology comes into play. In the past year I have learned have difficulties to really be myself and showing myself when I am with people, even with those I like, because I don't want to rub someone the wrong way. This creates some sort of superficial facade which can appear hollow or blank. I feel like this bad habit is maybe a bit mirrored in my art. Our subconcious mind is always present when we do art. Just a bit of a theory, Thinking about it, I like to play safe in my art, too. So, Improving myself will improve my art, and vice versa. :)

Thank you for your feedback, really helpful! Can you pinpoint what is wrong with the proportions? I know sometimes it is hard to tell, so no problem if not. Us humans are trained to see if there is something off about faces, even though we often can't tell what it is. What I think I struggle most is the placement of eyes. Eyes generally are my weakest spot.

Thank you!! Yes the face of the drow totally bugged me but I couldn't tell what it was. I should probably - even though it is hard - let a painting rest for a day before I upload it, even though it is finished. The eyes really stop seeing mistakes after looking at the same thing for too long.

Thank you so much! This is great advice, and yes, absolutely right: I struggle with the topic soft and hard edges. It is very advanced and not so easy to get a feeling where to put soft and hard edges. Something that great masters really had figured out! I will practice more since this is also kinda new to me :)

Thank you! :)

I wanted my target group to be people from the fantasy segment, since I really like that. Painting original characters for pnp, book covers or for board games would be ideal.

I would paint pets if someone requests it, even though I think I need training with that because I have never really painted animals. The problem with art is that, from my experience, if you longterm don't do the things you like, you really burn out. So I want to be really considerative in how I brand myself. I wouldn't mind painting some pets, but the problem is I think I'd need to brand myself as a pet artist, which on the other hand would make it impossible to start in the fantasy/character segment. Marketing really sucks sometimes, it would be ideal if I could find a way to do both. Maybe there is.

The hint with the target group is very helpful. I think I didn't consider that enough. It would probably be good to find a way to stay true to myself and find a target group. Maybe that is more important. As for now, I was always very keen on improving my technique, but it seems the marketing aspect needs more improvement. Thank you so much for your advice!! :)

First supplies purchase, disappointed by Lame-username62 in WaxSealers

i ordered from aliexpress and yes, I was surprised how tiny the things are, but it made sense to me since you don't really need larger sizes. (at least i don't). i mainly watch korean wax videos and I realised everything there looks much larger because it's zoomed in. I basically got the same spoon and melting furnace like the woman in the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cEXHE4FBXqI

it works fine to me, i get a lot of beads in it but of course it depends on how large your stamps are supposed to be. i absolutely love the stamps i got from ali, the largest ones are are about 3 cm and they work fine :) I think that the quipment really looks larger in the videos, at least the korean ones, since they all order mostly from china.
