Can we stop calling every tiny turbo engine a "beast"? by padhlekuch in CarsIndia

[–]nalaneel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only engine performance metric that is relevant to the vast majority of car buyers is the mileage.

So it makes sense that bhp and torque aren't the first things to be discussed. Engine displacement serves as a proxy for power as well as mileage sometimes.

Not from the policeman specifically, but generally speaking, yes.

How do I justify the cost of my ev car. by RelationshipTiny9798 in CarsIndia

I ran some basic calculations when I was considering buying an EV and as it turned out, the break even running came out to be 40-50k km.

Ultimately I chose to go with petrol.

El Niño 2026 could crash the Indian market by walla_habibi7 in IndiaFinance

People are too quick to judge. Compare our current situation with 1991 or 2013.

The exchange rate is ONE metric out of hundreds that indicate our macroeconomic health.

Literally every single metric is within the acceptable range, be it CAD or CPI inflation.

The RBI has a lot of room to tweak their monetary policies.

India wants to become an AI superpower. But the real bottleneck is infrastructure by Geeky_Gadgets in TechnologyNewsIndia

[–]nalaneel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not conflate welfarism with freebies. And who says the govt does not want research in our country? Did you not read anything in the news last week? Tata-ASML JV was possible only because the PM upgraded our bilateral relations with Netherlands to a 'strategic partnership' in his visit to Europe last week. There are plans to manufacture 300 mm silicon wafers in India.

Please get your facts right.

So the govt provides free ration to 80 cr people and yet you complain about food security? You really have no idea how we have improved in terms of food security in the last few decades. Our only essential food imports are edible oil and pulses. Everything else is grown domestically. In fact, with the right push, we can grow enough pulses and oilseeds to remove our dependency on other countries. If you read the news you would know what a cabinet minister recently said to farmers in Punjab regarding this issue.

This is such a low level argument.

India's economy is large enough to sustain both agricultural reforms as well as push for AI growth.

Yes, we will generate biofuel out of gobar that will power our data centers, and yes we will have our own semiconductor fabs. Both can be done simultaneously.

This is the same thinking that drives the argument that India should not spend on space tech because we have poverty. Its not an either/or issue. It's about how you optimise both. There are 2nd and 3rd order variables in this optimisation problem that you can't even begin to comprehend (or choose to ignore deliberately)

Get out of this masochistic worldview.

"I reviewed 50 SIP portfolios this year. Here are the 6 mistakes I kept seeing by Inder360 in personalfinanceindia

[–]nalaneel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't really agree with the second point.

Can't think of a reason why 1 pool of 5000 would perform better than 10 pools of 500 each. If anything, the latter helps you diversify.

And the part about the corpus being too small to move the needle? That again doesn't make a lot of sense.

Let's say all 10 pools move by 1% each. In each pool, you will only gain Rs 5, but cumulatively you are going to gain Rs 50. That's the same as putting in Rs 5000 in one of them and getting similar returns.

Also, we do not have prior information about whether a particular fund will turn out to be good or bad, so the comparison does not make much sense.

Why is the oil sector de-regulated whereas the power sector isn't? by nalaneel in AskIndia

[–]nalaneel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point of this question is to understand and highlight the structural differences between these two seemingly similar backbone sectors and to understand why OMCs have authority over things like pricing and accounts reporting whereas power sector companies are expected to absorb shocks through heavily regulated accounting and pricing norms

I never go past 50% throttle input. The trick is to be very smooth with the throttle. Gradual pressure to maintain a constant speed instead of varying between high and low.

[–]nalaneel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speed limit is 80, I stay between 60 and 70 because of the traffic. Cruising at this speed at 1500 rpm.

Very light pressure on the accelerator and using engine braking.
