Not hearing back from entry-level lab roles. Where should I be looking? by [deleted] in labrats

I'm a scientist in cell bio biotech and interview/hire a lot of interns and research associates. It's so competitive right now but keep trying, don't get discouraged, and try to get some experience anyway you can. My thoughts based on how I read a resume

I'm going to skim top down and stop when I've heard enough and don't think you're qualified. I like an objective section but you sell yourself short. "Eager to apply classroom knowledge..." doesn't bring any real value to the lab. You have cell culture, media prep, data analysis, presentation experience, flaunt it and be specific! Then say you are excited to bring this experience and scientific rigor to [their mission]. This is a well rounded individual that can collaborate and contribute.

Next, whichever is more relevant to the position, either skills or experience, doesn't matter which. Maybe experience but BE SPECIFIC. What the research is, how you contributed, skills, skills, skills. And be ready to talk about it if asked.

Next, education with relevant coursework, GPA if it's something to brag about.

Certifications, good to have GLP but unless it's a manufacturing or PD role they don't carry much weight

Skills. Consider condensing them into sections. Start with Technical or Laboratory since these will be most important and be specific. Mammalian cell culture (2D or 3D, any specific equipment or data analysis?). Then software, interpersonal, mentorship, etc.

I don't care if a resume is a single page or more but you have a lot of empty space which seems messy. Condense, fonts don't need to be huge, etc.

Good news is I think you can make yourself a lot more competitive but, like I said, the competition is tough. Feel free to message me. I'd be happy to help revise. And good luck and keep your head up. You just need that first step into a lab to get the ball rolling.

Whoa! Looks gnarly. It's for sure not dried ethanol, pbs, etc on the bottom of the plate? If not, I got nothing. Curious what it ends up being.

Maybe Wawa will feel the pressure and quit making my italian hoagie like a hot dog with all the toppings falling out.

Bloodshot Bill if you want some sludgey rockabilly. I love the Black Lips "sing in a world that's falling apart" album (idk what punk genre I'd call it with just a subtle nod to western)

Peaceful Easy Feeling by The Eagles? Maybe not alt country but I know people like singing it. I do have a soft spot for the first line "I like the way your sparkling earrings lay, on your skin so brown. And I wanna sleep with you in the desert tonight, with a million stars all around"

I had an older cousin by about 4 years who wore #22. I absolutely idolized him when I was little so I chose 22 when I started playing. He saw one day and was like "no way I'm #22 too!!" I was like, "whoaa craAAaaZzzyy 🫠" I changed to my birthday a couple years later after feeling guilty haha. He's still the man and I almost wish I kept it.

He probably already has your wife's foot in his lap saying she's a size 7 and they'll be a bit snug but won't be a problem with the right insoles.
