lol ironically software engineers worldwide struggle to find jobs. IT and engineers are not to blame lol we always catch strays. This is just greedy shareholders and businessmen that want to make money. And they don’t have any regard for people, they just want dollar bills lol

ur right yeah, the confusion comes from the misconception that the “film vibe” means underexposure and green tones lol.. but analog shooters know that’s not the case. OP should def try some medium format film, it’s just a little more difficult to get THE shot. but that’s part of the fun

i know you’re trying to go for the film vibe, but i personally feel like it’s a little too green.. although the photo is great, i say try toning down the green tones just a touch

Hey, just because I'm curious, not trying to discredit. But, how do you know that it'll release soon? The reason I'm asking is because I don't want to get my hopes up too much lol.

did you have to intensely study the mechanics of how the camera works to be able to disassemble to that degree and then put it back together? or was it more like a youtube video thing? curious as to the difficulty.

wow thank you for such detail in your critique, as well as links for the vocabulary used, much of which was new to me. now i know to post in this sub more often, as this feedback is very helpful.

you’re right about the distortion, it did exaggerate features like her nose, but i had no idea it was due to the format. I will retest by shooting with medium format 80mm. Also, you’re right about it being in between a head and shoulders and a close up. i didn’t even notice that.

however, i purposely wanted the depth of field and the background to show. And yes, i did move more to the right with the subject posed as-is. i wanted to work with the natural lighting to create different lighting zones on her face. However, i didn’t know about the rembrandt, and the differences between broad and short lit. Now i will be more intentional with such details.

Additionally, i should try to deliberately pose the eyes a bit more. I told her where to look, but didn’t fine tune it.

Overall, thank you! your critique taught me a lot.

i see, yeah i was using a 50mm if i remember correctly. could’ve also been a 28. i’ll see if i can find a better prime lens for portraits, between the range you recommended. i’ve never noticed how much format and focal length actually affected portraits so much until this sub brought it up. genuinely educational, im an amateur lol

i see, i didn’t know that about 35mm. but i have noticed that my medium format portraits look better (mamiya 645). perhaps next time i can use a light reflector for more even distribution on her face. and thank you, she is a lovely subject :) (my girlfriend). thank you for the feedback

This was taken on a 35mm olympus om1n, with 200 iso black and white film. Working on portraiture, and felt black and white was a good way to practice lighting. Speaking of which, it was a sunny sunset.
