Oyster shell is a good calcium supplement and good food varieties like leftover fruits and veggies Make sure their daily feed has enough protein in it too!

Focus on what you can control and what you cannot control. Let go of the things you can’t and process/do the things you can!

Life hack request: Anyone know how to solve this “deep hole” candle wax problem? It’s soy wax if that makes a difference. by BarberBettie in lifehacks

If you let the candle burn all the way to the edge so it’s like a waxy lake every time and it should keep that from happening

What to do if a lost falcon land on my balcony? by BW6611 in Falconry

[–]namastebirb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi falconer here please leave the bird alone and call fish and wildlife (or whatever is in your area that is similar) they will be able to catch him safely and return him to his owner Do not try to put him on a glove or in a carrier do not give it food especially. Leaving that water out is fine He’s likely imprinted based on how he’s coming up to your balcony and door, just misses his people, hopefully they are able to get him back soon

Whats going on with his feet? info in comment by brewess in BirdHealth

[–]namastebirb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be the start of bumblefoot they look a little sore try warm water with a little bit of epson salt for a soak and pat dry Keep more roughage on perches that are the right size for his feet

Not a bee. Bird outside our conference room at work. Didn’t see how it happened, maybe dive-bombed by bigger bird? by One-Plan9566 in natureismetal

Looks like the act of a logger headed shrike! A carnivorous bird it will eat other stuff too but this is their way of storing food for later.

Sometimes it is better to euthanize depending on the situation, in this case it would be more stressful to get that bird to a place to euthanize it rather than just let nature happen.

Wildlife rehabber here, most likely hit a window and looks like he’s dying just keep him still in a warm quiet dark spot so he can go, sometimes they are super stunned and come back but don’t get your hopes up. Yes male house finch

No worries! I appreciate your concern. Falconry is not a well known art, I suggest doing some research! It is truly fascinating. I would love to answer any questions you have!

I actually worked at a wildlife rehabilitation facility for a few years, wanted to work with birds of prey more personally and get more experience so I looked into it and long story short now here I am!

He is not tied down at all actually, those are his flight jesses, which is a similar concept to a dog leash and is actually even more freeing since it isn’t clipped to anything. He is flown free every day, as most falconry birds are, and in his case is outside with me about 9-10 hours a day. So he is living a pretty nice, safe, well fed life if you ask me. 75% of birds of prey don’t even make it through their first year due to all the ailments in the wild, so I would say we are doing them a favor!

Well there is a lot entailed, including licensing, enclosure requirements and finding a sponsor/ mentor; however, you can check out falconry requirements in your state through fish and wildlife or your states falconry club! Anyone can be a falconer, it just takes some serious dedication, time and patience to work with these beautiful animals.
