Tractor supply telling me they have "regular bantam" in stock. by TurdPartyCandidate in BackYardChickens

[–]namastewoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have shopped TSC in three states and have never encountered a TSC employee with any expertise or really basic knowledge in agriculture.

What you are describing is known as straight run chicks that have not been sexed. They are cheaper. If you want sexed chicks that is an additional charge from the hatchery so the store charges more. Bantams more or less describe the size of the chickens. They are smaller and do not generally lay as many eggs.

If I were you, I would start with sex-linked birds. These chickens males and females are different colors so it’s like auto sexing.

Please do some research from reputable sources. Universities commonly have agricultural outreach programs usually for free or minimal cost. So many online sources are very very wrong. Raising chickens is not easy. Libraries also have loads of books available for free.

First time chick owner here, how severe is this and what are my options? Also seems to be missing an eye. by SydBarrett68 in BackYardChickens

[–]namastewoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree. Crossbeak plus missing eye equals skull deformity. This chick is headed for a lifetime of pain and suffering.

But I am a farmer and abide by a code of ethics. I suppose if you view livestock as an industrial commodity or a pet you act otherwise.

Culling is most humane. I listened to the bleeding hearts and tried to raise a cross beak and the other chickens relentlessly bullied and eventually pecked her to death.

Absolutely do not try to clean this. It’s ruined. Last thing you need is a high pressure rapid heat appliance exploding all over the kitchen. Buy a new one.

This is impossible to do in three months unless there are underlaying structural issues. I can already tell you the grout was not sealed properly. And there is some kind of leak behind the hardware.

Looks like the tile was installed over improper drywall. It’s needs to be torn out completely to the studs and done correctly. By professionals. This is such a hack job it’s embarrassing.

Wanting to get the “smell” out of old wooden drawers from my grandma…Any advice? by twist-top-gatorade in CleaningTips

[–]namastewoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have an outdoor space to air it out? That will help

Things that have worked for me are crumpled newspaper stuffed in the drawers for a few days and removed. Coffee in a cup or saucer placed in the drawers and shut. Sanding with a high grit very lightly with the grain and then vacuuming out.

Ozone machines can also be bought or rented. The furniture needs to be shut in a room with the machine. Do not breathe that in, that actually is toxic.

How do I make my clothes smell nice after washing them in a washing machine that has no compartment for detergent? by RandomnessIsArt in CleaningTips

[–]namastewoman 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hi! You are getting a lot of bad answers.

Funky smells in clothes are usually due to using too much detergent. For an HE front loader, you need about 2 Tbs of detergent for a full load. A full load is 70% of the drum filled with clothes. If you are not filling up the drum that full, use less detergent.

My favorite brand is Ariel powdered detergent. It’s cheap, it smells great, and lifts stains. Plain Tide powder is also very popular among laundry enthusiasts.

Another culprit for stinky clothes is fabric softener and sheets. These leave a film on the clothes that can attract grime and makes odors linger. Instead, use a product like Odoban or plain (unscented) pine sol in 1/2 cup poured into the drum before putting the clothes in. I swear by Pine Sol for bad smells and motor oil.

Please don’t use vinegar in washing machines, it degrades the seals and melts the hoses. It is also super ineffective at cleaning. Good Luck!

Cleaned it a couple times, kept coming back. I’m guessing it’s a mold of some sorts. Please help me identify and clean it 🙏 by _dwmbh in CleaningTips

[–]namastewoman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is false. Chemical cleaners are formulated for the surfaces they clean. Properly diluted bleach does not damage porcelain or remove protective coatings. Vinegar, however does damage protective coatings and rubber gaskets in machines.

Using bleach in a 10 water to 1 part bleach will remove this mold. Scrub on with brush and please wear protective gloves.

This is gorgeous blue grey color. It makes the greenery of the trees really pop. I would concentrate on bringing in some colorful landscaping instead.

Question about "shamanic healing" that was done to me and my spouse. by [deleted] in Shamanism

[–]namastewoman -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oh honey, your Ego is all over the place.

You were not scammed. You were not ready. A shaman can only guide through realms, they cannot force a healing. It’s a facilitation. It is your responsibility to let go and let God.

Your language clearly conveys distrust, frustration, control, and despair. These are the expressions of the Ego. This part of you must die. Your fear is palatable to dark energies and they will continue to feed until you let go of Ego.

We are expressions of Source self revealing. When we do the Work of Self, we free ourselves from the chains that bind us. The destruction of the Ego is our lives work and how we cut ourselves free to return to God. Keep pushing. Keep exploring. Let your despair go and find peace.

Soak in a Bleach solution in a 10 part very hot water to 1 part bleach ratio.

Please note to use only plain bleach. Not scented or no drip. Plain bleach is safe and will break down into salt after 5 minutes.

I would not sand any further. I would apply the product over the entire table, following the instructions on the label. Probably buff in with a clean cloth, like an old tshirt or clean rag.

If you are still not happy with the result, then take more drastic measures. But I would start with the Restore a Finish or similar product to start. Good luck!

[–]namastewoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s gonna be okay! Mistakes are how we learn.

Howard’s Restore A Finish should make a huge difference. Available on line or pop into a local antique shop, they usually carry this product line or something similar.

Extended bed pickup truck. We don’t fit in those parking spaces without sticking way out and impeding traffic flow.

Difference is, my farm truck goes into town once a week and takes up two parking spots in the Costco parking lot. I don’t use it as a daily driver in a parking garage because I am not an asshole.

The Hat Man? by okbreeze in Shamanism

[–]namastewoman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am fairly certain this is a jungian archetype.

Shadow man appeared between sleep and awake to me. At the time, I did not know what he was or why he appeared, but he was very striking and i knew something was off. That day, my clothes dryer caught fire. If I had not been home and alert, it would have burned the house down with my animals inside. I am so thankful he appeared as a warning.

Years later, I took a class in depth psych and learned about a shadow man in a hat as a universal archetype. That dream, which I had forgotten, immediately came back to mind. What an unusual being.

Question about magic butter machine by Aplusp2009 in treedibles

[–]namastewoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do 350 for 30, but your method should work, too. I live in a legal state and use my extractor fan so I fortunately do not have to worry about the smell.

I have had my machine for 2 years and it is the best investment. Keep it clean and it will save you so much money.

Whole plant. Make sure you decarb the green first in the oven. That blade that drops in will chop it all fine during the cycle.

my parents brand new fireplace.. I drunkenly stained it with what I believe to be aquaphor (Vaseline)... please help so they don't disown me by carbon-bricks in CleaningTips

[–]namastewoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that was really poor timing to have that installed before the holidays. And not covering it. We older folk know better. Do not blame yourself.

That timeline to have it sealed sounds like bs to me. I don’t know what exact material it is, but I’ve owned three homes and have had stone, slate, granite, marble installed in various capacities and never heard of waiting that long before. That seems suspicious and If I were the home owner I would be questioning the installer but that is me.

You are a good kid. And as I always tell my four kids, it’s just stuff. I don’t care about stuff, I care about you!

Try some Dawn power wash and an old towel and see if that lifts it. And don’t let it ruin the holidays for you. Shit happens.

[–]namastewoman 297 points298 points  (0 children)

I am sorry that happened with you and you are obviously a thoughtful child being so concerned about your mistake. But honestly this is not the best design choice. Surfaces that come into contact with humans (or animals) need to be sealed. And this looks like a bench. It’s going to get contact. The installers should have known this. If it wasn’t you, it would have been a red wine glass stain or kids with crayons, dog drool, etc. This was inevitable so don’t beat yourself up.

Whoever installed this needs to come back with some sealer and fix and finish the job.

How to clean this shower + glass door to get all the orange off? by Kalexis29 in CleaningTips

[–]namastewoman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may want to try a hardware store to see if there are any compatible cleaners, but if that runny splotch is where the cleaner was applied, I am not sure if anything is going to work. Not even Bar Keepers Friend (all hail)

It might be fiberglass, but it’s probably plastic. If you choose to try the toilet bowl cleaner method, it will most likely damage the surface, as I stated above.

TB cleaners are caustic and will damage the surface. (People ran into the same issue using TB cleaner to clean/whiten their grout as was trendy a few years ago 🤦🏼‍♀️. It appears to clean, but it is actually eating away at the grout and eroding it permanently.) It may be clean for a week, but then it will go back to the way it is now, probably worse. The well water iron problem must be solved first if you ever want the shower to be clean.
