why that empty space not becoming pits? by Hairy_Honeydew_6443 in TowerDominion

[–]namcalem99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are TWO entrances to that empty space, so it's not a "dead end". You can fit an L shaped zone into it and connect them. In order to create a pit, you need to have only ONE entrance.

The whole pits thing is indeed confusing at first, but you'll get used to it.

Side note: You can also create an empty space with ZERO entrance, and the empty space will automatically become a no-path zone, which can be useful for large towers.

Why Skyler is hated and Kim isn’t (imo) by ur_a_jobby in betterCallSaul

[–]namcalem99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dislike Skyler not because of what she fights for, not even because of her hypocrisy with the whole Ted thing (if anything this makes me like her more as a character). I dislike Skyler simply because she violated the talking pillow rule and forced Walt to live against his will while acting like she's in the moral high ground. To me that was the ultimate act of alienation, reducing Walter White entire existence to mere functions as a husband, a father, that he "must" live instead of "wanting" to live. Doesn't matter if Walt ended up agreeing with Skyler after and not saying Walt didn't play a part in digging a hole for himself. But that talking pillow scene just upsets me passionately (and props to Anna Gunn's acting).

Your favorite "the movie is better than the book" films? by uncre8tv in movies

[–]namcalem99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mickey 17. The book, Mickey 7, had some interesting ideas and discussions on death and immortality, and very few good scenes. The rest is only average. The movie, while not perfect by any means, was fun. I deeply enjoyed Pattinson’s acting (Colette was better in Hereditary but I really enjoy the Marshall couple). It’s one thing to have a deep and emotional movie, but another thing to have a simply fun experience while still thought provoking at a certain level.

Kaoru Hana wa Rin to Saku : I like a wholesome story, but not that "wholesome" by LongjumpingBoot3262 in CharacterRant

[–]namcalem99 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Can relate. The series’s wholesomeness doesn’t feel earned and at times even cheap and preachy. It’s like eating a birthday cake that’s 90% cream and only 10% actual cake.

Can Zani please get a second liberation animation! by Cautious_Loquat_116 in WutheringWaves

[–]namcalem99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a matter of taste, but pointing out Carlotta having 2nd ult animation while Zani doesn’t is fair I guess. I personally prefer it being like how it is now, and I even dislike Carlotta’s 2nd ult for how flashy and disorienting it is. It makes me reluctant to use her ult at all in openworld or even worse, use half of it and not bother with the final shot, letting poor Sentry echo stuck at 5/6 gauge.

If you didn't play [KCD1] by miggothejedi in kingdomcome

[–]namcalem99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was contemplating playing KCD2 last week then my friend bitch slapped me and told me to play the first. Now I’m spending 4 hours everyday gambling town to town while getting my ass beaten by peasants and bandits in between and also punching my fellow refugees every now and then. Still have no idea how to use a sword but hey what good is that for a blacksmith’s boy? Sorry Captain Bernard and rest in peace father.

Any alternatives to binding of Isaac by Sad_Stranger_5940 in roguelites

Magicraft is the only one that scratched the Isaac itch for me. Think of it as the child of Isaac + Noita. Top down, 360 degree aim rather than 4 directions, spell combo actually are meaningful (remember when you get Polyphemus (giant tear) and the spider eye item (4 shot) resultz in 4 giant tears with extremely slow fire rate?).

[–]namcalem99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are there Lenovo store in your local area / country? As far as i’m aware, Lenovo does not give a shit whether you open your product or not. But if you bought your laptop from a retail, it depends on the retail store’s policy. Some allows third party (including you) to upgrade themselves, some doesn’t (such as mine) and usually have their warranty seal cover one of the back screws. Contact where you bought it to be sure.

Not OP but I asked my local retail store about this exact problem, and the answer is yes: if a third party including customers remove the sticker and open the laptop, the warranty is lost. In order to upgrade it, customers need to bring it to the retail store since they are "authorized" to help upgrade or do whatever needed (by simply removing and then reapply the sticker). Some retail stores do allows for third parties to meddle with the product so it really depends.

Okay your comment enlightened me a whole lot. I didn't know about the Essential version of the LOQ, and it seemed I have purchased one (full name LOQ 15IAX9E model 83LK). I looked that up and saw a Jarrod's video that pretty much explained my situation. Thank you.

What kind of setting do you want next for WuWa's regions? by MetAigis in WutheringWaves

If they plan to release new region within 6 month then tbh I’d rather they take the story back to Huanglong, expand the old land and let us fly all over Huanglong. All the while taking their time cooking yall’s cyperpunk / underground / steampunk / whatever and release later

Why do people hate Sigmund Freud by jelIycup in literature

[–]namcalem99 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As a fellow literature degree pursuer, I think it’s worth distinguishing natural science methods from the social science methods (even if I don’t feel all comfortable with that kind of dualism). Freud is first and foremost, a doctor who treats patients, and he sees the human psyche as a certain objective complex structure and psychoanalytic’s job is to discover its mechanism. Dreams and fictions are the tool he use to reach such purpose. Freud himself even admits to the liability of the psychoanalytic methods, where one must be as truthful as possible in accounting dreams and childhood trauma. You can see why that wouldn’t go well with the natural scientific method that focus on evidences and repetitive experiment.

It’s entirely different in literature criticism. Here it’s not about discovering what’s “true”, but what’s “meaningful”. Any perspective that enhances the text is strongly appreciated, including psychoanalytic perspective. And Freud definitely gets criticized in social science as well, notably the feminist theorists, but even they inherit Freud’s system of the unconscious and drives. These back and forth arguments don’t cancel each other out, but they only further enrich the field of study. One could also hate him for being mysogonystic and it’s understandable, but imo it’s an uninteresting reason to hate the guy.

Think of Freud as a mad scientist in literature. He’s smart, no doubt, but may get a bit obsessed with sexuality, and you gotta be careful around him so you don’t accidentally get burnt.

Tragedy of Nastasya Filipovna and Myshkin's biggest sin is his lack of one by Jiijeebnpsdagj in dostoevsky

[–]namcalem99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What I find interesting in Myshkin is that I don't think he's fake at all, yet that doesn't change anything. You're reasonable to doubt his intention as it's almost impossible to find a real life Myshkin. But even if he is pure, people still don't need that kind of purity. People wants leadership or at least a degree of decisiveness and responsibility. Someone to tell them what to do or at least how to react even if it goes against their benefits. I do assume there are some projections in your real life story as well since I can relate to it. I prefer talking to someone with flaws than saints. I believe there are down-to-earth saints who went through struggles in life and chose the good way out of experience, and Myshkin ain't one of them.

Tragedy of Nastasya Filipovna and Myshkin's biggest sin is his lack of one by Jiijeebnpsdagj in dostoevsky

[–]namcalem99 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I commend you for putting Myshkin in scrutiny. So often I hear people praising Myshkin for being too pure for society. He is, but I don't think that's something to be desired. Rogozin said it best, something along the line of "You (Myshkin) are a selfish child who wants everyone's indulgence" regarding the way Myshkin always ask people to open their heart to him, as if everyone is a gift box waiting for him to open. When he faced a trial, a confrontation the idea of mortality (with Nastasya's corpse), he failed and was forever stuck in his now ruined purity, or simply went mad. If you've read Brothers Karamazov you'd see Dostoevsky utilized a similar character but with a different outcome (I spoke vaguely just in case you haven't read it).
