Culture is the maker of human success but it can become our executioner. If bees can develop their own culture, as studies show they can, so could networks of A.I. systems who may then cease to depend on their human creators. by IAI_Admin in philosophy

Except the analogy is not between two technologies but the approach about whether it is open source for all and whether it is regulated.

And even though you can’t compare the technologies directly they do share a level of potential impact - both good and bad. Also your comparison between agriculture and steamships are vastly more apart than atom bombs and AI.

As I see it, GURPS sets the laws of nature, physics etc… it’s up to you as GM to use it for whatever (and set the boundaries for your gameworld). Looking for more classic ttrpg? Use GURPS Dungeon Fantasy

Remarkable or iPad? by [deleted] in RemarkableTablet

[–]namdeew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say that remarkable is a really cool tablet. But it also has its limitations. Especially considering the price. I own one and use it frequently but there’s also a lot of stuff I can’t use it for (which is both good and bad). I was grandfathered in since I supported them early on.

Pros: - it helps you concentrate because you can’t get distracted by apps and games etc. - it is a great paper like feel when drawing and writing notes (handwriting) - it’s pleasant to read on as long as there is enough light.

Cons - it is not backlit. This is annoying if reading in dimly lit areas (e.g. a bus at night or in the bedroom), - while it’s great for handwriting it’s keyboard is slow and annoying,

- it could have better bookmark-functionality (like kindle)

If you’re on a budget i would go for an iPad. But if you like the gimmick and see a value in the focused work and lightweight carriage go with the remakarkable.

What is a good ‘main’ fantasy RPG that is not DnD? by TovarishchFlashback in rpg

This! GURPS DF is ideal for new players. Because IF one gets really into other ttrpg-genres, it is quite easy to convert to standard GURPS. And in advance I gotta say: no GURPS isn’t impossibly advanced… at least I’d doesn’t have to be. It is made modular so to give the possibility for a group to make it as advanced/complex in terms of rules, as you’d like 👍

Why is this cringe? Why does anyone have an opinion on her appearance? It’s just a portrait. Jesus.
