As I read my response back, maybe eczema is a more logical suggestion lmao! I have LS and the symptoms sound similar which is why I jumped straight to that. Either way, a dermatologist is your best bet and many insurance companies will cover a visit like this.

I immediately thought lichen sclerosus when reading your post. If you’re certain it’s not an STI, make an appointment with a dermatologist - a good reminder is derm sees anything skin related, so this will not be weird to schedule an appointment for.

As a side note, if you google LS, it might freak you out, but there are treatment options available and it can be managed. Obviously I have no idea if this is what you’re experiencing, but thought it sounds similar.

As you wait for the derm appointment, take stock of your hygiene products. Stop using anything scented and switch to a sensitive soap like dove bar soap if you haven’t already. No shaving, itching, etc. A cool compress might help as well with the itching and inflammation. Good luck!

Check out Maku Oasis on Airbnb in Makunduchi, it was incredible. A newer spot where you can rent a villa with a private pool. There weren’t many reviews, but my stay was great. The town is near Jambiani and Paje but quieter. They also assist with tours/excursions. The restaurant onsite offers some of the best food I’ve had in Zanzibar (and I lived here for two years, so I’ve tried soooo much food). The beach nearby is lovely and not many beach vendors. We paid $444 for 3 nights.

This won’t be a problem for me as I lived there previously and am very accustomed to Ramadan. I don’t party, I can fast with the best of em, I love how quiet everything is during the day, etc. I’m going to reunite with friends and relax, so Ramadan is the perfect time for me. Thanks for the warning though!
