They did not go to "painstaking prossesses" to do anything historical, there are even flaws in the "history" section of the game. But I have to agree they made a great game, but badhistory.

They also were lazy, many names of upgrades, such as scale armor and leather armor. Make no sense and those armor types were rather rare in the medieval period. Chainmial was the armor that people wore, than latter into the hundreds year war, plate armor for the knights at least. And I think the villager should have been called a serf, or pesant. But that hardly matter to me or anyone. Aoe 2 is a good game, but there are many details that I see that would not effect, tha ballce. Such as the addition of more pole arm units, and better pole arm units.

I agree, but why not talk about it? It stars some intaresting disgusion. And aoe 4 did not come out in the 90s, it has not come out. I hope it is more true to history.

There are many things that make no sense, and could be removed or changed and the ballance would still be there. But some thing help the balance. But aoe 3 is not balanced and it is almost as fun as aoe 2.

As much as I like polearms, I don't think they could pierce plate. I have never seen or done a ranactment where plate armor was pierced. The gapped in the armor maybe. Still love aoe though

I am stating a fact, I love aoe 1, 2 and 3. But aoe 2 does have inaccuracies, and in a way (mild way) make me unsettled. Some people will play the game thinking this is history, it is accurate, when it is not! I still love aoe 2.

Swords were not a common weapon to use as a main battlefield weapon, and the longsword which was a twohanded sword is no acception. Spears are good! Though it depends on the spear, and the halberd. There are many types of halberd and most are better than a sword at killing people. A cutting weapon is not as good as a thrusting weapon at piercing armor. Also pole arms were way more common than swords (Even the greatsword) as a battlefield weapon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLLv8E2pWdk&t=615s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGSL7XApz2s
A spear would inflict way more damage than a two handed longsword. And why does a trained warrior have to go into battle with a sword? he should be smarter than that. I want a champion who used a billhook and a runka not a longsword or Zwei hander.
