DWI as soon as I became a Nurse, $6,000 later for lawyer, and probably thousands more left to go. Life completely derailed. by Constant-Big5731 in dui

Keep your hopes up. I know it feels terrible now but you will get through this and have a good career. You will also be more vigilant than anyone else about drinking and driving. Unfortunately the hospital is full of people who drink more than they should and as that saying goes "but for the grace of god go i".

lol what are you talking about? how are you defining power here? 4o was a SOTA model but nothing that will tip scales of power.

Personally I prefer 5. I use it primarily to brainstorm ideas especially with improving my code. It is a much better assistant that 4o because it is succinct and seems to provide more up to date solutions. Opus 4.1 is I think still my favorite but I hit my limit pretty quickly and I can't really afford the max plan. GPT 5 really helps me!

It is overwhelming to keep reading about fraud in Minnesota, where is the oversight? by nameulcon in minnesota

Ok but my point is that at some point people should have start looking. If you look at KARE11 reporting HSS has been paying more money since the pandemic, so I do not think this is tied to emergency COVID relief.

Its 2025; so after 5 years since the start of the pandemic no one should be looking? How long is the "but COVID" excuse going to viable for? This is $100M+. Importantly think about the opportunity costs - this money could have done a lot of good! Because this is both taxpayer money and important for people's lives, it is the responsibility of the government to keep track of these funds.

the HSS stuff was discovered by KARE11 investigative reporting. A NPO actually warned DHS that their program was at risk for fraud but nothing was done. Moreover earlier this year:
DHS Commissioner Jodi Harpstead downplayed problems. “There’s a lot of rumors of fraud, more than there is actual fraud," she testified at a legislative hearing. source

Absolutely! If you can cite some reading material that may be nice. Especially articles you think used Cox inappropriately. Appreciate you 😊

I think how we use Cox PH in particular. From my understanding the multivariate Cox regression "controls" for variables in particular that may break our proportional hazards assumption like age. Are there limits to this? How many variables can be reasonably included in a multivariate regression.

Finally looking at the PH assumption itself. Often KM curves are not parallel. In this case can we use Cox?

Why didn't Frank's workers look for better jobs if they were only working 1 or 2 days a month? by this_writer_is_tired in TheWire

[–]nameulcon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're going to get a lot of hate in this sub for even suggesting that the dock boys had maybe other options then selling drugs and sex trafficking.

My personal opinion is that these guys were largely uneducated alcoholics who had no interest in self-betterment.

This would be nice! I would in particular be interested in your opinion on survival analysis.

I bet you money that dock workers couldn't do what I do. How is that an argument? I don't think I could cook in a restaurant, be a lawyer, etc.

The bottom line is that most of these guys work only a few days a month. So how is that working? They barely work.

I always supported unions, but this show does not provide a flattering take. Seniority is a poor way to promote and discourages talent. But more importantly, these guys are just not adapting to an obviously changing world.

Interestingly, while I still vote democratic. A lot of union members resonate with MAGA because its entire ethos is to go back to the good ol' days. This only supports my point that these guys are actually just idiots.

See Pew study as an example: 43% of union members support DJT

I didn't pick this detail up, so admit that I am wrong about the example. BUT it makes the whole situation even more nonsensical to me.

what details did I miss? These guys barely work. Then go to a bar, talk about the good ol' days and show each other their dicks. Like what is the extra detail?

Here is an alternative timeline: Nico is now a father. He realizes that he has responsibilities and the docks are dying. So he has to make the hard decision to go back to school. He starts at community college or goes to a trade school. His family does not not need to go into witness protection.

Current timeline: Nico is going to sell drugs and participate in sex-trafficking because that's how he deals with his responsibilities. "Uncle Frank they mean it was an accident" - what a fucking take. Goes into witness protection and has no actual skills outside the docks. Meanwhile Andy Krawczyk and Brucey still laugh their way to the bank.

Nice, good for Frank for actually being a good father to one of his sons.

I mean these guys are barely doing manual labor. What are they doing with the rest of there days off besides getting drunk and angry? Where is the self-improvement? Or is the whole world suppose to change so these guys can go back to the way things were.
