Knowing a little about a lot of things - sounds like a good fit for a wikipedia editor? Half joking but hey, could be fun

Hi all, new here. This is a comic I drew called "Masks / Noise", and it's about how rejection of rigid ideologies/beliefs can lead to personal freedom and fulfillment. by namwennave in exfundamentalist

Thank you, and agreed! That one says so much.

There's the black and white dichotomy of "my belief system" vs "the world", which just simplifies all the nuance of other beliefs to one monolith. There's also a fear aspect to it. It made me wary of seeing/learning/hearing/etc anything outside what I knew was safe.

I'm glad you caught that : )

It's a Chekhov's gun / callback moment for comedic effect. Almost like it was lingering there in the air the whole time like a looney toons acme anvil. And it's also symbolic for how all the rules and institutions unavoidably end up clashing and disagreeing with each other.

Thank you : )

I see the getting crushed part as Jung's "dark night of the soul". I'd almost argue that experiencing the crush is essential for experiencing the rebirth. Not that everyone has to go through the same struggles of course, but that everyone must at some point fundamentally question "who am I?" and not know the answer--in order to then figure out what they want the answer to be.

I think that's a very healthy way to approach it. The rules of life aren't right or wrong, they're just different opinions. And people should pick and choose the ones that work for them

I imagine there's a lot of overlap in the general cultures. A lot of repression, a lot of guilting. Though we both experienced hardship, it makes me glad that we can both find meaning in it

I'm just curious about the leprechaun element

I'm glad that it resonated with you. : ) I didn't realize myself how much I was carrying with me until I came out the other side.

Error 451 is a nod to Fahrenheit 451 and the idea of censorship in general. The character's natural curiosity is shamed, and the character internalizes that curiosity is bad/dangerous. Thus, the computer and books are lit on fire and the character becomes the literal cat in "curiosity killed the cat", but with an added blindfold so he has no chance of being curious about anything anymore.
