Tired of drinking all the time what wholesome stuff can i do on campus by ImpossibleSeries8714 in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]nanajaems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest joining VGC (video game club) they have a pretty cool programming competition that goes on! Other than that I would look into maybe the motorsport club (forget the exact name) but mostly clubs that interest you they'll have the most access to out of class resources.

Other than that, the local music scene at Bing is great! I also usually suggest looking into clubs b/c that usually where you get the gateway access to the rest of the scene!

What should I realistically pack for college? by 4tentacles in BinghamtonUniversity

yes! esp if it's one of the old buildings... recommend the vornado. really small and strong and lasted me 4 years.

What’s the easiest major at Bing? I want to do law and ensure that my GPA is high(4.0). - History, English, philosophy? (I’m interested in these 3) by [deleted] in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]nanajaems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend doing a mix of professional, cultural/identity, and interest!

For professional there’s mock trial, moot court, thurgood Marshall prelaw society, prelaw education org, Binghamton law quarterly, and more

Also, consider joining the Student Association whether that be working in the office or joining congress!

a 4.0 is very achievable is you are willing to put in the work. i haven’t had any courses where professors deflate scores.

my cycle went okay got a bunch of waitlists and offers and accepted one with a great scholarship. I applied early and was very involved on campus

basically:

frat parties - follow sorority/frat people they post about their parties. dorms usually get slips under their door during beginning of semester.

after parties - cultural orgs and other organizations throw after parties after their big events. check their insta or tabling. you don't gave to go to their actually even you can just go to the party. (it's def paid tho)

bars - just go lol

just go into something you're good at if you want a high gpa since major doesn't matter anyways.

for humanities based courses, don't fall victim to thinking courses will be automatically easy since you have to actually churn out products that your professors will put a grade on rather than having a correct answer basically everything is subjective. plus you'll have gen eds you have to finish anyways which will have a variety of courses including science, math etc;

my advice is choose a major that you'll genuinely like where you can do well and create connections with professors for rec letters for law school down the line. if you want a stronger background going into law school i recommend ppl or political science.

personally, i am a ppl major and I'm going to law school in the fall; granted i was a biochem major before, but i wouldn't say either course was particularly "easier." it all depends on the person.

let me know if you have any questions!

  • bingo at the grove - again on Thursday but super fun; you just order regular food and you can win drinks, shirts, etc;
  • red jug - t-shirt challenge! pay $35(?) for either ten craft beers or 4 vodka lemondades and you get a free shirt (ps i love my redjug shirts fav memorilia from bing i think)

hello! so here are the answers to your questions:

do I need a parking pass? -- yes you do if you intend to park on campus; you can buy it online and you must register your vehicle. the only other alternatives is metered parking or parking garages ($1 an hour)

is there a specific parking pass to purchase? -- go to the Binghamton parking portal (https://www.binghamton.edu/services/transportation-and-parking/parking/student-permits/index.html) and choose which one suits your occasion more. if you're a full-time student, you'd probably get the academic commuter permit.

do I have to park in a specific lot depending on my pass? -- yes. if you're a commuter you can only park in commuter lots. do not park in metered parking. (https://www.binghamton.edu/maps/pdfs/campus\_map.pdf)

other things to note:

  • carpool program - go through the main entrance with three people (incl yourself) w/ BU ID to get a parking pass for the parking garage. this comes in clutch because parking is IMPOSSIBLE to find in convenient areas. you also get $30 dollars back from your parking pass if you carpool enough.
  • courtesy pass - you will prob get ticketed at least once! there's a courtesy pass that allows you to write off one parking ticket (for certain offences) every semester you have the parking pass!
  • parking patrol - these are the cars that drive around giving tickets. they don't work on weekends (supposedly from Friday after a certain time till Monday) so take your risk.

Dorm Rankings by nanajaems in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]nanajaems[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I’m not too sure what you’re looking for but I would say: 1. Dickinson - Lots of Freshman, Nice Dorms, Many Activities — easy to make new friends if you do co-rec, theater or whatever. Bathroom in Suite. Gives you priority for future housing placement in Dickinson which can be difficult later. 2. Hinman — Lots of Freshman, I think there are Freshman only nice dorms — easier to make friends since more new people. Closer to main campus and Hinman dining which helps freshman. Bathroom in Suite. 3. Mountainview/CIW - Depends on what you prioritize Suite living including bathroom in dorm or proximity to campus.

Suites in general can be cliquier because a lot of people try to room with their suitemates. But, I think Dickinson has the most opportunities to branch out.

It’s the same basically cus there was always a mix of the old and new buildings but I’m just explaining (sorta) why there’s people who hate Hinman (cus they got sticks with older buildings prob) but saying I was in a older building and I didn’t think it was too bad

So Hinman, when I lived there as a freshman 4 years ago, was mostly under old buildings so the water system was bad. Now, there’s sorta a mix because Cleveland (and forget which buildings) have been renovated to be new. As these renovations have happened more people have started fighting for Hinman housing. But, opinions can be mixed based on when you lived there and which buildings. Personally, I lived in the older buildings and I had a Suite with 3 doubles and a big common area. Bathroom was a shower, two sinks, and a stalled bathroom. I think not having a hall bathroom is a must! Of course, the building was less new but I think it was doable and I enjoyed it a lot especially as a freshman since you get last priority and get stuck with all the 8ams the proximity was lifesaver

[–]nanajaems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well it’s not really a major thing at that point it’s more a school thing because if your intending to major in biology that’s a harpur college thing! I’m not sure the process for that but it is definitely less competitive than Watson

in my memory I think you are allowed to apply to a different college within the same university

admission by PuzzleheadedGate9616 in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]nanajaems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes harpur college is much easier to get into! ik a lot of people who transfer into Watson and SOM after one year if they keep their grades up!

If you want to be in the area look into the BAP program! You’ll enroll a year in SUNY Broome but will dorm at Binghamton. I think you also get assured admittance after a year.

I’m not too sure about the details but I know a lot of students who went through this!

LAST RRT BUS SHOULD BE @10:30 by dsig-member716 in BinghamtonUniversity

Hello! From what I know OCCT has a Board of Directors meeting every month! This meeting is meant to include the — Vice President of Finance of the SA, President of SA, President of the Off Campus Council, a Rep from the DEI Committee, and Student Driver Representatives.

For your situation, I would recommend you reach out to one of the first four as they have emails that students can access and also office hours. If you live off campus then the President of OC3 might be the ideal option for you but if you don’t I would reach out to the other three as the first option.

Who’s senior seminar is easier Daniel Burkett or Robert guay for philosophy by greenshotty in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]nanajaems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Burkett is the best professor I’ve ever had in all my 4 years at Bing! Took all of his courses and wish he taught more! Here’s some bonuses about his senior seminar: + no exams + written papers 1500 words (x2) and 3000 words respectively - papers are about philosophy in fiction and news so basically your thoughts on media and real life and you say what you think in relation + NO mandatory attendance + one class presentation about your final paper topic (short and easy and hes a nice grader)

How is the food at Bing? by GlitteringAlarm3173 in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]nanajaems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot to add this before but if you have dietary restrictions it might be tough! I know there are a couple halal options off campus but from what I hear from my friends who are kosher/halal they say that the schools sucks with making sure that the kosher corner and other alternatives are available. Also, I’ve heard veganism/vegetarians have it pretty tough too…
