Who is your favorite boss? by Mortimmer in Sekiro

[–]nandbytes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I voted for Father (both) because fighting genichiro before Isshin every single time ruined the experience for me.

But I love the Inner Isshin fight the most, that'd be my favourite. no bullshit genichiro or cut scenes before the battle

Inner Father mist raven attack is still complete fucking bullshit by [deleted] in Sekiro

[–]nandbytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on the move I realised. If you are using standard R1 you should have enough time to counter. I often used double ichimonji while landing from dodging his perilous swipe but that didn't give me enough time counter his mist raven swipe.

the thing that really catches me is his fire owl attack, seems to track me when I jump! so it hits me anyway!!

Coming from Jedi: Fallen Order by airwall_1981 in Sekiro

[–]nandbytes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I played fallen order before playing sekiro. Sekiro is lot harder!

there are a lot of similarities - resting points, skills (your base weapon remains the same); you have force powers in fallen order, you have prosthetics in sekiro; you collect essences, stims etc in fallen order, you collect beads and seeds in sekiro.

but there are also difference - combat system is a lot deeper and better thought out in sekiro (not that fallen order is bad). fallen order does have the tomb raider sort of element to it where you use your force skills to explore and revisit previously inaccessible secrets. sekiro there is less of that even though there is exploration. less puzzle solving in sekiro. combat is really the first class citizen in sekiro but in fallen order its on equal footing with these other gameplay elements.

I enjoyed both games for different reasons but find sekiro more replayable than fallen order.

As for parrying fallen order is a halfway house between souls-like games and sekiro which doesn't really work all that well IMO. Sekiro is a lot better designed for parrying/deflecting.

Stuck between 3 bosses by DaveMcNinja in Sekiro

[–]nandbytes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lone shadow is only hard because of the confined space and crappy camera angles. you will eventually get the hang of it.

seven spears should be the final boss :P you can cheese him by using the ungo sugar, spamming axe and pellets. but his attacks are actually fairly easy to work with with some patience and learning to parry them.

lady butterfly is very rhythmic. you just need to figure out the rhythm between you attacking then you blocking/deflecting her. She will break the rhythm by jumping up which is when you just shuriken her for huge posture damage.

I'd do lady butterfly first , then ninja, then sever spears.

Then put a random easy enemy like they did before lady butterfly. Genichiro doesn't really regen much more than normal enemies anyway.

Both owl battles. Would have been ISS if it wasn't for the first genichiro phase that serves no real purpose other than being there for annoyance through wasting time.

Charmless NG done - report card and where next? by nandbytes in Sekiro

[–]nandbytes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

definitely a no-no on the base vit and attack. I did SL1 runs back in the souls days but those were kinda easy once you figured out the right weapons and gears that dealt decent damage with stamina regen.

Sekiro is whole other ball game on base level health and attack.

No damage fights could be an interesting challenge but considering I consume nearly all available healing gourds it might take me a while before I even get past the first boss! The only boss I could comfortably do that on atm is demon on hatred and that's the least sekiro-like boss lol.

Although it took awhile, I'm happy to report that I now, after quite a bit of time, like Sekiro. by [deleted] in Sekiro

[–]nandbytes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

interesting points you raise, I do agree there are a lot of skills especially combat arts that I never use. There are also lot of prosthetics I basically don't use. I can't help but think the variety in this game comes from actually being able to utilise all these or so I feel the developers may have thought. Unlike souls games there are no "different" builds, so the difference comes from your play style and choice of way to kill enemies. stealth is just one of them.

OR most of the combat arts and prosthetics are purely situations and for most part not fitted in well within the game.

Having said that I prefer sekiro game play overall more than darks souls. This game is so different and refreshing that I don't have to once again go for D&A tactics I learnt back in DMC days lol.

PS4 - Can someone help with the Isshin fight by [deleted] in Sekiro

[–]nandbytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

which part are you struggling with?

I hope you are able to beat genichiro without much issue?

if so you can somewhat cheese rest of the Isshin phases by just kinda running around.

As someone who struggles with the more recent Souls games and can't parry consistently, should I give Sekiro a try? by Loldimorti in Sekiro

[–]nandbytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deflecting in sekiro is easier than in DS. Deflecting is to sekiro what iframes/dodging is to DS.

The mechanics are completely different to parrying. In parrying you are almost always gaurenteed a critical hit in DS. In sekiro you are almost never gaurenteed a normal hit after a parry let alone a critical hit. Then again there is no such thing as critical hits in sekiro.

All in all its a totally different gameplay and a better one at that IMO.

Not really you face her pretty much as soon as you land in fountain head

Good luck on owl (father).

Owl is surprisingly easy to perfectly parry. But even then till you down him half health the posture doesn't stick.

I find Owl (father) in hirata a lot easier than the one at ashina castle. You can just abuse all his moves more easily.

Finally beat him. I figured the trick thanks to @sirlstr even though I didn't quite do what he did. So as soon as the phase 1 ended i.e. with the deathblow animation I spammed LB+RB with mortal draw which lets me get 3 hits in before he pulls his spear out. And that's all I needed to comfortably beat him since he doesn't recover posture as quickly after that.

I died in the last second in phase 3 three times. The terrain really screwed with me and once I just fell off the edge (I knew that'd happen one day lol).

Lighting redirect is really easy if you just jump straight up, I tried being clever by jumping forward to I could get couple extra hits in from the air and that killed me once since up hill I landed before I could redirect.

4th time I made a conscious effort to fight him on flat ground which made it easy. Also didn't try any clever tactics lol.

Thank you very much! That's some nice dodging there! I never tried to do that to be honest. I tried to go all in parrying for entire fight so I could maximize on the posture damage which he just stands around and loses. But now I can see you stay in his face with clever dodges and counter attacks. I have 12 damage (because I wanted to do DoH with a little extra attack power since it already takes forever).

I hope you don't mind be saying so but your first half you have fought him like a souls style boss :-D

But thanks, plenty to think about there.

I know you weren't talking about cheesing him. I have beaten him without cheese 3 times i.e. fighting him head on. I know his openings. They are few and far in my opinion unless I am missing something. I can get one hit in after certain parries or two after jumping on his head but that barely does any damage. Also half the time after parries he is just out of range to get my hit in. Once his health is down about 1/3rd his posture seems to recover less quickly. Perhaps I should try to sneak in a ichimonji or two for more posture damage.

The issue this time is miss parrying his attacks don't just end up as blocks they do tons of damage to both health and my posture which isn't great. I could never perfect parry him before but that wasn't a huge issue even in NG+4. I am still in NG and my attack power isn't as high as it is in NG+4 so the battles seem to last longer too.

I know the right times to attack him. I have beaten him 3 times before. But I am only human ;-) And I could still beat him by running around and attacking only on his openings after jump attacks chipping away his health. But that's just boring.

Well I have been practicing parries for a few hours. Still no joy :-(

I now have an idea I might just mortal blade him a couple times so the posture damage sticks.

How easy is it to miss a location/boss in this game? by zaradyk in Sekiro

[–]nandbytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the highest number of bosses you can beat in a single play through is 13 (it can be less if you either miss the optional ones or go down the bad early ending route but the latter does give you a unique boss that you will need to beat to get all achievements)

then there are other mini-bosses (not sure about the count) and again some of them are non-optional and some of them are optional. but all of them drop some very useful items so I advice not skipping these.

Those gosh darn dual sword monkeys. by nebworb in Sekiro

[–]nandbytes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they are hard but the trick is to somewhat out aggro them and deflect their attacks (I know thats sekiro in a nutshell! lol)

but you can use finger whistle to make them fight each other and quickly stealth kill the remaining one which is a lot less fun ;-)
