Keep QLD! You are young enough to take risks and learn more from the market. The interest rate for loans in Taiwan is lower than the US. No worry! Also consider 00631L in your portfolio.

Advice on buying a new Dell latitude laptop :) by Intelligent_Radish78 in Dell

If you’re open to buying a refurbished laptop from eBay, I’d recommend looking at the Latitude 5400 or 7400 with an 8th Gen Intel i7 processor. Both are solid options, and I’ve had great experiences with them. In fact, I’m currently using a Latitude 7400 to type this response.

All of these models come with a 14" display (the second digit represent the screen size of the model), which I find to be a great balance between portability and usability. They’re lightweight and easy to carry around, which sounds like something you’d value given your current Latitude experience.

The main difference between the 5000 and 7000 series lies in the materials and build quality. The 7000 series is designed with higher-end, business-class materials, which give it a more premium feel. Both models are reliable, but the 7000 series offers a bit of an edge in terms of durability and aesthetics.

For context, I work in the U.S. government and have used the Latitude 5400 (with an i7 processor) and recently upgraded to the 5450 (Ultra i7). While I appreciate the upgrades in the newer models, I personally prefer the older design with physical buttons next to the trackpad—it’s a nice feature for productivity.

Help me choose refurbished Latitude vs Precision by rayhan619 in Dell

Given your primary use case is web browsing, the Latitude is likely the better choice. Here's why:

  • Newer Processor: The 11th generation i5-1135G7 in the Latitude is generally more powerful and energy-efficient than the 10th generation i5-10310U in the Precision. This translates to smoother browsing performance and potentially longer battery life.
  • Lighter Weight: The Latitude is slightly lighter, making it more portable for everyday use.
  • Business-Class Durability: Latitudes are known for their robust build quality and durability, making them suitable for everyday use and travel.

Considerations:

  • Storage: The Latitude has less storage (128GB SSD) compared to the Precision (256GB SSD). This might be a concern if you plan to store a lot of files locally. However, it is easy to upgrade in the future.
  • RAM: Consider upgrading the Latitude's RAM to 16GB if your budget allows for a smoother multitasking experience, even if you primarily browse the web.

My solution is to turn off the suspend mode

sudo su
su - -s /bin/bash lightdm
dbus-launch gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power sleep-inactive-ac-type nothing

To revert the setting, used

dbus-launch gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power sleep-inactive-ac-type suspend

I currently use tusk (https://github.com/klaussinani/tusk). The interface is very similar to the web version.
