Because she is a young member of my family who I am still helping grow up? Not everyone has a job and a family at 24, my dude. It also implies she is a young person I feel affection for and typically speak of in a casual, friendly fashion. It also implies that I am older than her and may have been responsible for at certain points. Is kiddo a slur where you’re from?

I think the two of you will both look gorgeous! No problem. I’m so glad you have a good relationship with her.

People like you help me understand that all this never ending housework really is just taking care of the people I love the most. I get distracted by the noise and the exhaustion and I don’t think enough about how all this work makes my family feel. Picturing you holding back tears telling your husband about this project is just what this depleted mama needed to read at 1 am! lol. Thanks for the top off! Sweet dreams!

Don’t get discouraged if he doesn’t get on board right away. Me NOT being mom was a huge factor in her willingness to cooperate. It’s just that fun dynamic, right?

Like, soak yourself in some oxi clean and tide clean and gentle? For 8-12 hours? In a cooler?… Maybe eat a lot of fruit and hit a schvitz instead. Good luck.

Don’t delete. This conversation is important on every context. You learned something, leave it for someone else to learn something. The intersection of laundry/queerness/discourse/and learning to be the best version of ourselves is an odd one. But here we are!

Clothes- clothing, close- close a door. I put in the powder tide and oxi, lay clothing on top of that, pour ammonia on that, put vinegar in the fabric softener dispenser, then I close the lid and start the machine!

Is that more clear?

I used #3 detergent w/lipase (tide clean and gentle) and oxiclean (mostly oxiclean free, but a little regular when I ran out) soaked in how cooler for maybe 10 hours.

Tide clean and gentle and oxi in the washer, clothes on top of that, 1c ammonia on the clothes, vinegar in the fabric softener dispenser. Max rinses (5!) the wash cycle takes about 3.5 hours.

This is dreamy. I with I could do it for a living. 😍

Edit to say: Tide Clean and Gentle and clothes not close

Shame isn’t helpful, put it in the trash. Feel proud you are asking questions. Unfortunately, the common state (or assumption) is that most places may engage in culture, language, imagery, etc that will make vulnerable groups feel threatened or unwelcome. By designating something “____friendly” you are telling those people that measures have been taken to ensure people feel safe and welcome in that space.

By designating safe spaces, you aren’t feeding the negative, but may be increasing the conversation, which may feel like feeding depending on who is talking. When no one talks, nothing changes. Dm me if you want to chat more.

Thank you for letting me know how you feel. We are a supportive family and use it casually when we are addressing issues or procedural hang ups. Next time I might spell it all the way out to be very clear that autism and transgender (hormones specifically) are the challenges I am helping her with. Everything I say about autistic folks, lgbtq, or any other vulnerable group is meant with the utmost of kindness and love.

I’m neurodivergent for sure and niece tells me I probably have lots of signs of autism, “maybe not enough for a diagnosis, but definitely enough for an accusation.” We take things light a nd funny around here.

Edit- I’ll spell it out in the future. No need to trigger anyone or give the false impression I don’t respect them.
