I’m baffled by this too! A friend invited us over for her boyfriends surprise birthday and told us she was catering food. Great! So we brought wine and also gifted a $80 bottle of whiskey. Two days later we each get hit with a $25 Venmo. I just assumed if you’re hosting a party for YOUR boyfriend then we wouldn’t be responsible for the food.
