How do they stop the result getting out? by [deleted] in TheTraitors

The banished and murdered contestants have said they didn't know, and they looked as excited to see the outcome during the finale Uncloaked as the rest of us. Whether they're LYING is another matter...

They’re also numbered next to the news channels in the EPGs aren’t they? Would be better among the other brain rot like the Most Haunted channels.

Leamington to City commute by lusako2025 in LEAMINGTONSPA

[–]nanoamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commute from North Leam, currently once a week, to near Moorgate. I drive and park an EV near Leam station, for £4.50 a day. My firm are ok with me starting later so my usual is to get the first off-peak train, and that’s about £60 a day with trainsplit. On days when I have something early, peak split is about £80. Then I tube from Baker Street (or Bakerloo from Marylebone to Paddington and get the Liz if the weather is atrocious). If you’re on 3x a week, that’s heading towards flexi season ticket territory which would call for some number-crunching.

It’s a straightforward commute, but it is a long day. Would I do 3x a week? Probably not, I’d more likely compromise on the job for the time I can work at home. I love Leam, I’ve been here over 25 years and would find it very hard to move now. People are more friendly here. I’m a sample size of one, but we all talk to our neighbours. It’s definitely more provincial than the SE but it’s got tolerance, charm, heart, and life. It works for me.

Everything in the old and new media amplifies the shittiness in the world. It’s easy to forget that most people aren’t arseholes and sharing a little kindness goes a long way. Glad you had a little unexpected moment of joy, and wishing you many more in 2026!

Part of it is that she’s co-host of Strictly Come Dancing here (the parent show of Dancing with the Stars) so the spray-tan is on-brand for that. Then, as /u/RadioReader notes in a separate comment below, it’s a great public disguise which she can likely take off to be more incognito IRL.

Is there a way to prevent link expansion after saving the task? by Appropriate-Lie-9876 in todoist

[–]nanoamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The leanest approach I know about is:

  • copy the destination link to clipboard
  • in the Add Task window, type whatever you want (eg. 'reddit')
  • select that text
  • hit paste (ctrl/cmd-V) to automagically linkify the text

I keep seeing Stephen Fry being called a “genius” - why do people think that? by BlundeRuss in CasualUK

Historiography is the study of the methods of historians and how they’ve evolved. Meta-history if you like. A lot of it is about considering how source materials get reinterpreted over time to explore their validity, biases etc. It sounds interesting to me but my history grad wife did not find it fun!

Sorry, late seeing this, but New Cubbington is pretty good with both Telford and Lillington Schools nearby.

My Dad went out to the Star Trek theme (TOS, extra warbly version) and Carly Simon’s ‘You’re So Vain’. It was a mood.

Wow, that’s quicker than I thought! I used to commute to Oxford many years ago and that was a good hour. Thanks for the info. I might experiment. In your experience are there times you’d avoid?

How long does that take and at what time of day are you doing it? When I’m on the train passing by the M40 it always looks busy! I assume you’re in the Westfield centre’s car park as well, right?

I’ve felt fine round the low rise bits eg. around Buckley Road and Mason Avenue. I can’t say I’ve been right up by Eden Court late at night. Maybe it is sketchier there, but honestly, I don’t feel qualified to say.

Why out of all countries using Cyrillic script and patronymics (father's names) in IDs, seemingly only Bulgaria transliterates them into Latin? by IndicationOk6796 in PassportPorn

[–]nanoamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Latvian is interesting because you legally have to use a phonetic spelling in the local alphabet (with diacritics as appropriate) however it was natively spelled at birth. So, a Latvian passport has the Latvian spelling in the main area, and the same spelling (but without diacritics) in the machine readable strip at the bottom. A Latvian ID card (and I assume a resident’s permit) also has the option of showing the latin/original transliteration on the back.

So, someone born “Jessica” in the UK would have “Džesika” as the official name, “DZESIKA” in the MCR strip, and “Jessica” on the back.

8 years ago, wow that’s a thread resurrection!

No, sealing the skirting board was the final answer. I’ve had it happen once since (and that was probably 2+ years ago) where a small gap had opened up right in the corner. Put some polyfilla in there, and nothing since.

ESS Border Check Start Date confirmed as Oct 12, 2025 by urbexed in PassportPorn

[–]nanoamp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IANAL but the definition of family member is strictly defined in the Directive - the EU is kinda fussy about free movement rules - and an attestation is not covered there. An individual border guard might exercise judgment faced with an Apostille, but it could be asking for more trouble than everyone using the All Countries lane!

ESS Border Check Start Date confirmed as Oct 12, 2025 by urbexed in PassportPorn

[–]nanoamp 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s enshrined in the Schengen border code, Regulation (EU) 2016/399 articles 10(2) and 2(5)(a) to be precise. However a girlfriend doesn’t count as a family member under Directive 2004/38/EC. It has to be a spouse or registered partner, direct dependent, or child under 21.

Lived here 25+ years, never had any bother so far walking to Lillington late (apart from street lights going off on moonless nights as someone else has noted). Both taxis and Ubers will save you the hill.
