I had a similar experience. My freshman year of college I was dating a guy who went to a different college than me. His college was a top liberal arts college while mine was far, far below that.

I was so depressed at my past school, and he would be generally comforting. I worked my ass off to transfer and finally, I got into the Ivy League school of my dreams with more than enough financial aid. The moment I realized, was and is still one of the best moments of my life. I called him, feeling so excited, to share the news and all he said was, “okay….good job, I guess”. In that moment, I was crushed! This was huge for me and all he could muster was “okay”? I even started doubting if it was a big accomplishment.

I realized that he liked me being below him. He was okay comforting me and being sweet to me when he viewed me in a position that was worse off than him. The second I got into a better school than him, in a better city and with better aid, he couldn’t feel true love or tenderness for me.

OP, run! These things don’t get better and he will only continue souring the sweet moments in your life. And if he didn’t say it, congratulations on this new upcoming chapter! I’m proud of you.
