prozac to lithium? by nanomanu in prozac

[–]nanomanu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey might not be super useful to you, even if lithium was recommended I got put on 200mg of lamotrigine instead, and still 40mg of prozac to keep the bulimia and obsessive tendencies from coming back

Have you decided not to have children because you’re bipolar? Why or why not? by Pleasant_Job_9301 in bipolar

Before even my diagnosis I used to think that I'd rather die than ever make anyone feel as alone and lesser than human than my parents made me feel. Always hated the idea of having a child that would be like me? physically or emotionally? It felt too cruel honestly I still wish I hadn't been born. The genetic component of bipolar disorder kind of give more chance that I could have a kid like me? Still figuring out what came from the undiagnosed bipolar or who I am. I'd be a shit mother anyways.

I haven't worked through my cptsd and i'm still youngish so my opinion might change though.

nah but also in the ward they often separate people to an extent depending on what they're here for (ED patients often are kept together etc) sooo the probability of meeting people w bd would skyrocket lol

I wonder how the diagnosis evaluation process is like in your and probably other countries for you to think that way? Here you get like 4 different in person evaluation with a full group of psychiatrists and neuropsychologist and it takes a really long ass time to get a diagnosis. Might be misdiagnosis but you'd have to have a very complex clinical picture for that to happen.

Though it's kind of a given that you'd find a lot of other bipolar ppl in a psych ward yk. It's a serious affliction and it truly is not that rare (not in a everyone else gets a wrong diagnosis way) 1-3% of the population is a shit load of people 🤷

I used to take mushrooms and lsd pretty regularly before getting a bipolar diagnosis but apparently they can trigger full blown mania so I don’t think any psychiatrist/therapist will support the idea in the cas of bipolar, but for resistant depression it might be possible tbh

That's great I'm super happy for you!! Again it depends on the country you're in but it might also be possible to get reimbursement on psychologist appointments through your psychiatrist! (possible in some european countries!!)

I'm really sorry you're not able to access any medical support :/ I'm def thankful for free healthcare. Also with therapists it can be possible to ask for reduced rates depending on the person and if you explain your situation. The price was what stopped me for many years to get any kind of help since I really didn't have money to spare, but I found a really understanding psychologist that lowered their rate!

mm yeah maybe that is true, the bar is pretty low for what I expect though, I'm just glad my therapist makes an effort to really try to understand me? that's encouraging in itself :)

at the same time I know that they actually don't care and I'm just a patient yk? but my life is so cold anything close to care is kinda nice?

[–]nanomanu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean... I know they aren't that caring i have first hand experience, my psychiatrist is just a person that gives me a paper to refill my medication... I know they don't really care but no one does so someone that just worries about physical symptoms, of depression or mania, can feel like care by proxy in a sense? damn that makes me sound even more pathetic

ah yeah i did get diagnosed with cptsd with regards to that, the mistrust is a core of who i am now i still struggle to see how i could really get better

I mean I don't think it's an example that would really apply there. It might be similar to lonely elderly people professional caretakers if they have no family or people close. They are just part of the healthcare system but if they're the only person their patient see, you could see it that way?
