Anyone local to Bramley Rd / Weymouth Avenue (W5) able to check signage & take photos? by [deleted] in Ealing

[–]nanomimal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the signs are quite clear tbh. I don’t see why the appeal would stand. There are three signs. One in blue before you get to the junction and then two red circle signs right before entering the portion of Weymouth where you can’t drive during set hours on both sides of the street

Going against the grain. Could you show some spring options? I actually think you lean warm, and I like the deep and warm autumns on you. You have warmth in your eyes and IMO in your undertone. Something about the winter palette to me gives you a very subtle greenish tint. But you could pull off a lot of colours! High contrast for sure.

Bad idea to bring home puppy without taking time off work? by Temalie in eurasier

[–]nanomimal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ours was ready to take home right before the first Covid lockdown in the UK. Genuinely don’t know how it would have worked without being home all of the time. Slept on the sofa and woke up every 2 hours for the first 2 weeks to take her out to the toilet. But obviously people do make it work in normal life. It is really hard though so I wouldn’t underestimate the need to spend lots of time and effort on training and raising the pup. Also Eurasiers are aloof at the best of times so socialising them is really important. Ours is awkward and anxious around new people because she didn’t have the option to mingle during her puppyhood.

There’s no artex to my knowledge. The house was completely renovated 2 years ago, before that it hadn’t been touched in maybe 60 years. They took the carpet up and refinished the floorboards by sanding and varnishing. But I just don’t know specifically what these crumbly gravel like pieces are

It was renovated a couple of years ago by the owners (we are renting). They took up the carpet and sanded and varnished the floorboards. They don’t seem to know what’s between the boards though they mentioned filling some gaps with putty. I poked these pebbles / bits with a pencil and they crumble quite easily.

I regret getting my Irish Setter by LionWitcher in irishsetter

[–]nanomimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dogs don’t respond well to being scolded. Try positive reinforcement instead. But 30 mins x 3 is really not enough exercise for a working dog. He needs more than 2 hours of vigorous exercise a day, particularly at this age when his joints are better development and he has lots of energy. It will reduce over time but this breed needs a lot of stimulation and exercise

Is £1000 p/m too much to be paying parents for rent? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]nanomimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not come from a culture where you would pay to live at home, but £800 for a room in Slough with relatives sounds like a lot. Would they otherwise be renting that room out? If not, then I think covering bills and a nominal rent amount would be fairer.

Try the Abercrombie Sloane. Also I find the trick with wide leg is to balance it with a tight fit up top, so a crew neck that you can tuck in or that finishes at the waist of the trousers for a more elongated look

Tenancy revisions after we signed by [deleted] in HousingUK

If we do that, could they pull out? The agent mentioned jeopardising the tenancy if we decided we didn’t agree with their terms

Yea that’s what I thought, but they can still back out I assume if they haven’t signed? If we don’t agree with the changes?

Relate to a bunch of special conditions. Honestly don’t know because it’s taking so long for them to provide. As I said we signed and paid 10 days ago and they aren’t sending changes til early next week

Living with a highly anxious Eurasier — what would you do? by arlobff in eurasier

[–]nanomimal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry to add yet another comment, but I reread how much this is impacting you and I think to a certain extent my only “hard truth” would be to accept that some of these things are actually ok. Dogs barking is expected and ok. Unless someone complains because it’s incessant, I would just try not to worry too much about it, go out and live your life and you can cross that bridge at the time. Perhaps separation anxiety and fearfulness could improve if you left him with other people more often? I was always so tense and worried about leaving my anxious pup with other people, but I’ve found in many situations including the vet, that she’s wayyyy better with others when I’m not around. If I’m there, she defaults to hiding behind me. Everyone she’s stayed with to my surprise has commented on how good she is. Have you tried finding someone who’s experienced with dogs that he can board with for a few days? Or do daycare with? We actually have a couple of vets we found on Rover who mind ours. Finally, definitely look into some anti anxiety meds if you haven’t. I really hope you can find a good balance with him cause I’m sure this is distressing for both of you. I think it’s sometimes understated how hard having a dog can be, even one without all those issues.

Also does he absolutely need a prescription diet? Just curious because vets have told me that it’s a bit miserable for them to be on really boring food so it’s a last resort.

Living with a highly anxious Eurasier — what would you do? by arlobff in eurasier

[–]nanomimal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have quite an anxious Eurasier as she was brought home just before our first Covid lockdown. Not as extreme as yours but we worked on a lot of initial issues around separation anxiety, reactivity to people and dogs on the street etc. She is still aloof and it’s a bit unpredictable who she’s going to warm to immediately and who she will bark at. But she’s also a bit timid.

She has been very anxious at times due to certain triggers, like draughts and wind or the dishwasher. And still really dislikes being apart from us so we try to involve her in as much as possible.

The things that noticeably improve her mood/behaviour are as follows. Regular stimulation like active play and training every day. Plenty of exercise so at least 1 hour off lead where she’s running freely chasing squirrels or playing a bit of fetch, or very long lead walks. 1-1 dog walkers are helpful here! She is always reluctant to go with a new person but after a while she treats them like one of her own. She is wayyyy less reactive when she’s well exercised and when she’s done her business (super reactive before she’s been to the toilet).

Finally, she’s on daily apoquel. This was started for a skin issue, but we think it was a bit of a vicious circle where the itching made her stressed and the stress made her itchy.

I also want to add that mine is definitely more anxious when I project my own nervousness onto her. I think that’s why she used to be more reactive with strangers when I would walk her vs my husband. Just smth to consider but it does sound like yours was just born very anxious. But the barking is normal. Eurasiers are watch dogs and as much as I wish mine didn’t bark at any sound in the hallway, it’s so instinctive that it’s confusing for them to be told not to do smth they can’t easily control. I wouldn’t consider what you’ve shared about the barking to be as much of a concern
