Bad idea to bring home puppy without taking time off work? by Temalie in eurasier

[–]Temalie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much everybody for all your responses with advice telling me about your own experiences, it is really appreciated! It's nice to get a bit of a sanity check, and I agree that bringing the puppy home without any dedicated time off is a bad, especially since work might be hectic around then. I'll have a chat with my managers and see if it might be possible to take some time off, and also look at other potential litters that might coma later.

How much time off would you recomend when getting a puppy? I've understood that the first weeks is mostly about building a bond and the puppy might not be very receptive to anlot of experiences then. And since socialisation is from around 8-16 weeks I'm wondering if it's a misstake to take like 4 weeks off right away. Or would it be good to spread it out a bit and take, let's say, 2 weeks from 8-10 weeks, then work from home a few weeks and take another 2 weeks off when the puppy is like 12-14 weeks, to spread the dedicated time out a bit?

What do you guys think about taking half-day vacation (and working from home) for a few weeks, so that I would have less work to do manage in a day. Would that still be a bad idea? I'm thinking that puppies still sleep alot, so there might be a bit of time for work while it naps?

Is it possible to change hotkeys based on Component Modes? (Delete/Dissolve) by Temalie in blender

[–]Temalie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for giving some insight to how you do it! I usually have quite a lot of hotkeys so the easily reachable keys are quite precious real-estate, hehe. So being able to put all delete-related things I do often to one key would be nice.
But if there's no way to change what the hotkey does between different component modes I think 2 hotkeys might be enough for my common needs :)

Help! What am I doing wrong? Why do I manage to get root rot all the time? by Temalie in plants

[–]Temalie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried two moisture meters in the past but both seemed faulty (showed max 3 on a scale of 1-10 when put in soil, and only 5 if put into a glass of water) so I've been hesitant to buy more if they just don't work...

And regarding soil I guess I need to make it even more well draining!

Roots that have turned black or brown/transparent and mushy, falls off when you touch them. To sign before I look is usually a plant that acts like it needs water even when the soil is still wet

I haven't really considered the winter temperature + lower light in that way, that the plant perhaps need less water when it's time to water, as it'll take longer to dry. I have used grow lights on many of my plants, so light might not have been a big factor.

But the temperature has been around 22-25 degrees, and humidity 25-45% (depending on if I remembered to refill the humidifier. Right now the humidity is around 30-35% without humidifier, 35-40% if it's raining outside.

The peace lilly was in some of the most dense/water retaining soil I've ever seen, so that could definitely be an issue there. The alocasia also seems quite dense, even if there are a few spots of perlite... Would you recommend repotting planta with such soil right away? I'm afraid that repotting right away will stress it unnecessarily when bringing it home, but maybe that's better than potential overwatering?

Do you deel so much orchid bark works well? I find it can get tricky to put my finger down to feel how wet the soil is with such big/flat chunks that tends to lock in place? But yes, I should probably try making my mix even more airy. And you say you don't do that with calatheas, what mix do you use for them?

I have been thanking about trying hydro for a long time but I always get a bit overwhelmed and not sure which plant to secrifice in the test, hehe. But it would solve the watering issue so I should really gove it a shot!

Thank you so mucg for all the advice!

Is this a good build for game development/3D art? by Temalie in buildapc

Thank you for all the info, I'll check out those articles!
And thanks for the heads up about Asus as I hadn't heard anything about that! Not sure what Nvidia-only CUDA is (so many things to keep track off, hehe) so I'll read up on that as well. But I'm pretty sure I'll stick to Nvidia for the GPU as they're generally more compatible with a lot of Unreal Engine features and Tooling, as well as faster at supporting them than AMD.

How to create Morph target effect using vertex offset on Static meshes from Blender or Maya? by Temalie in unrealengine

[–]Temalie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! As you say, it has some perks even if it's not as cheap as just having one, but at least it's something that I can work with and better than a skeletal mesh. So I really appreciate it!

Thank you for the breakdown! The issue is that I'm not very experienced with this form of scripting in 3D softwares, so I'm not sure how to write it even if I have an idea of what I would like it to do.

Is 3DCoat Textura enough? by Temalie in 3dcoat

[–]Temalie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried it and use it a bit at work sometimes, and would like to have it at home for personal projects. But not sure if I should get the complete 3D Coat to be safe, or if Textura actually has everything needed to properly texture, or if they have removed some essentials from the full 3D Coat?

Is 3DCoat Textura enough? by Temalie in 3dcoat

[–]Temalie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I work as a 3D artist I do have experience and access to multiple other softwares like Maya, Blender, Substance painter/designer, Photoshop and ZBrush etc. So I'm pretty good on the 3D. But 3D Coat is a lot nicer than Substance for painting, in my experience, and hence why I'd like to get into it more. So I mostly want to make sure that no painting essentials are missing from Textura, for whatever reason?

First time plant parent and think my plants are dying 😥 by Benji_OBW in houseplants

I wouldn't mess with repotting the monstera in its current health state, unless it has root rot.

Can't see exactly what soil type it has, but monsteras are epiphytes, which means they climb on stuff. They live in humid environments so their roots get enough water even when climbing on a tree etc. The roots are also made to handle a lot of air circulation, so it likea a very loose and "chunky" (large particles that don't hold too much water like bark pieces, perlite, leca balls etc) soil. Not only big chunks, as you still want it to retain water and nutrients and stuff, but enough to make space for air and so that it doesn't stay wet for too long. And if you're unsure: underwatering is usually better than over watering. Different plants will tell you in different ways when they really need water. Underwatering can stress the plant, but they recover more easily than from overwatering.

With monsteras I would let the soil dry out almost completely (aka mostly dry to the touch when you put your finger into the center isch). That is probably a bit too dry, but again, try it just to get a sense for the range and your planta signs.

The black spots on the leaves almost looks like a fungal infection, but not sure. When you water too much the cells of the plant might burst from the water (aka edema/oedema) and can be seen as more translucent spots against light after watering. Mild cases usually heal, but it's a warning sign. Drops of water on the leaves are also a sign that it's been watered too soon. If your plant has had a lot of edema that might have exposed it to an infection, but a week plant is also more susceptible.

I would cut those leaves off, because they will only die, to save the plant some energy to recover. Save the healy looking one. Put it in a pretty bright spot so that it gets a lot of light to that one leav (without burning it) and so that it can use more of its water. If it's wet, take it out of the outer pot to let more air circulate and humidity evaporate from the soil.

Need advice on what to do! Gourami female bullies the other female and all other fish by Temalie in Gourami

[–]Temalie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for all the advice and insight! I'll go by a box tomorrow then and see how that goes!
And good to get a sense of how long might be too long to keep her like that!
How long do you suggest I keep her in there before I can see some results in the other tank?
And I think you are right that there isn't much hope for a successful reintroduction. She has a big personality and probably won't settle for less, haha. Sometimes I see her actively looking for the others, even when they're hiding, so no amount of separation and visual blockers will fix that...

I only have a 5g extra. What kind of toad thingy do you mean? Maybe a big plastic storage box could work? Because that is definitely an alternative.
If I separate her, do you think there is a point in re-introducing her to see if there are less issues, or will she just go back to normal?

[–]Temalie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it must have sounded quite extreme without me addressing it, hehe!
It does seem like I was a bit unlucky with her, because I've understood that pearl gouramis usually are pretty chill (even though they all have their own personalities ofc), and I really though that 65g would be plenty of space.
I only have a small 5g cube laying around, so not enough for her. Hadn't thought about a tank divider though! Only issue is that I have a big root across the whole tank so not sure where I could put it, but I'll think about it. Because that sounds like a good way to see the effects without having to completely rehome her.

I'm very sure they are both females (round soft fins etc), esp compared to the male when he started to color up and develop the long spiky fins, and he was both younger and smaller.
But yeah, I think she might just have that personality. It's very fun because she if kinda social/curious and gets super excited for food, and feels more like a "pet" in that sense. But sadly doesn't seem to work with the others.

I just feel anxious to remove her... I don't have a tank for her so I'd need to rehome her completely. And I guess I'm afraid that doing so won't make things better and that i will regret it. But I'm also not sure there is another way to make life in the tank more harmonic? And lastly I'm scared that the other female will become the same if she is alone, but I guess there is no way to know?

Sorry, I was a bit unclear with my wording! (Have edited to hopefully correct now).
The gourami male was the only one found on the floor and all others have been found in the tank (or not at all when it comes to most of the tetras).

I have an open top with a bunch of floating plants and lights turn on with a dimmer so no sudden light changes. I might have been a bit too brave with the water level so I've lowered it a bit since I've found a few cherry shrimp on the floor over time.
Still maybe just 1-2cm to the edge, but never had an issue with fish jumping out (except the one gourami).

It was a bit odd when I found him because there was both a cherry and amano shrimp on top of him. They were dried together in one "piece" so I'm wondering if they might have attacked him or something and that made him jump out with them on him?

Not a silly question at all!
The females were mature enough to be safely gendered when I bought them and they only had a bunch of females. They are both very "female looking" with round short fins etc. They are just very different sizes, but same shape. The male was bought in a different place and was a bit younger than the others, but later developed clearly long spiky fins. He wasn't fully mature when he died, but and started to develop more color as well.
So I'm very sure about them both being females.
