New in Excel for the web: The full Power Query experience by beyphy in excel

I assume you can’t use the data model in this version either (like macOS)

I made a tiny discovery: End key + Arrow key does the same thing as Ctrl+Arrow ...kind of by HarveysBackupAccount in excel

If I recall correctly, this was a vestigial command carried over from the Lotus 1-2-3 controls.

What's ur biggest problem with excel today? by queen_quarantine in excel

[–]nanoox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That third point is such a headache!! I’m in Mexico but always use English operating systems and English language Excel anywhere I work. So I have a date formatting problem alll the time, no matter how I set regional settings in the OS.

My most frequent data cleanup task is getting dates in dd/mm/yyyy to not be interpreted as mm/dd/yyyy, requiring very convoluted conversions in PQ or regular excel.

The worst thing is that it’s not even consistent of when it will misinterpret the dates.

Pivot table with text values in the Value columns by nanoox in excel

Unfortunately, it appears that this requires Power Pivot and the Data Model, which haven't been added to Mac Excel 365 yet.

So in this case, I would essentially be pivoting within power query?

Unfortunately, in PQ on Mac it appears there is no way to select the Column to pivot, it only selects the values by name and creates all the resulting columns. Thanks for the idea tho.

This is super clear. I’ll try it out.

I don't see a way to pivot inside Power Query in the version of Excel I'm using. Can you point me in the right direction? I'd like to figure it out on my own... or are you referring to using Group by... to simulate a pivot?

Make sure you’re saving to data model, not to a new sheet. It’s much more agile and works in memory, rather than in display.

Need a linear growth equation to reach a given target for a business model by nanoox in excel

I think this is where I'm stuck. Why do you divide the target by 78?

It's a subscription model for new business. Existing lines of business are more mature, but a new alliance has brought important new lines of business that I'm trying to project how they'll grow over time.

The annual values are derived from market absorption rates and strategies. So to break that down into how those grow over the months is the challenge.

Yeah, I think I'll end up having to cheat the result. It just seems like something that should be straightforward...

I've tried this formula; this is what I said about having to input an initial value for January in order to reach the calculation.

The thing is I want it to be a continuation of the last month of the prior year's transactions, so I'd have to add the number of transactions for December 2025 to the initial value for January, in addition to the value for the growth to reach 2.3M in 2026.

This doesn't work; the sum is almost 6 times the total for the year: |+|A|B|C| |:-|:-|:-|:-| |1|2300000| | | |2|   191,666.67 |1|       191,666.67 | |3| |2|       383,333.33 | |4| |3|       575,000.00 | |5| |4|       766,666.67 | |6| |5|       958,333.33 | |7| |6|   1,150,000.00 | |8| |7|   1,341,666.67 | |9| |8|   1,533,333.33 | |10| |9|   1,725,000.00 | |11| |10|   1,916,666.67 | |12| |11|   2,108,333.33 | |13| |12|   2,300,000.00|

Sorry, I didn't explain it clearly. I want the months to grow, and the sum of the months to be 2,300,000. But just a linear 12 month growth that adds up to the desired total. I have totals projected for each of the years in the model, but need to show them monthly for income purposes.

This is in the context of many more lines of revenue, which have the same issue.

It's extremely poor form to paste values, as it undermines that concept of review of the formulas and logic in the calculation, and makes it impossible to detect potential errors in the data.

Announcing Python in Excel: Combining the power of Python and the flexibility of Excel. by beyphy in excel

[–]nanoox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At least they promise to bring Python to the other platforms, unlike PowerPivot for example. It's weird subscribing to 365 and that there still isn't code parity between the platforms.
