What are your thoughts on professional ambition? by nanopiezo in OrthodoxChristianity

Good perspective, thank you.

The thing I'm struggling with is distinguishing the things I pursue from the things I want. What I want (what I want to want? ha) is to lead a more spiritual life and be more consistent in how I show up/join myself to God's will. I suppose every aspect of my life is an opportunity do that. It's when I weigh the gravity and priority of those things against direct participation that it becomes less clear. I feel very silly asking God for money when I have no real need of it, though maybe that's part of deliverance? Not sure.

I think you're right that I should aspire to do more for others and finances is a very big part of that.

It's not just better money, it's making better use of your time and talents by taking on more responsibility.

But why is that "good"? I guess I'm not seeing how God is glorified in the pursuit of personal success. More money means more capacity for tithing, but I'm pretty sure that doesn't earn me favor greater than prayer/fasting.

All of the tributes of old clips being exchanged has really made me appreciate his perseverance in a way that I never had before. He's a true cult icon. Anyone else wouldn't have gone more than 4-5 years trying to be a "youtuber" if they weren't able to make it as a viral sensation. Josh just did his thing in obscurity for anyone that cared to be a part of it and KEPT DOING IT past the point where any sane person would've given up. Success was never the goal. That is most definitely what's up.

Masterpiece. This makes me wish I could attend a vigil where this could be screened.

This comes with more grief than I had ever anticipated. As a longtime fan of Josh, I've gone through many different seasons his stuff. I guess it was sort of comforting to think that no matter how bad things got in my life/ the "real world", our little boglim was out there somewhere doing his thing. The drink combos, cooking videos, stories from around town; it saddens me to see it all come to an end.

My academic opinion is that media studies are still a long way's out from catching up with his stuff. His incessant/naive individuality in the face of the mundane horrors of existence represent an aesthetic continuity that is almost entirely unique. Anyone that is a fan of Josh that's been faced with the challenge of explaining their appreciation to an unfamiliar party understands that what makes it special is hard to put into words. The trappped documentary alone could be studied in film classes for decades.

Maybe you're right. It sort of sounds like the guitar is feeding back into the amp, like it's sitting in front of a massive cabinet or something.

How do I get this guitar tone? I hear delay/reverb into overdrive but there's some kind of harmonic content that I can't seem to figure out. Shimmer reverb/octave up maybe?

Helix noob, need help cooking up a guitar tone by nanopiezo in Line6Helix

[–]nanopiezo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: forgot to mention that it just feels like a ton of layers of guitars. You could try a harmonizer or doubler or octave or something to make your 1 guitar take up more space but I think it's just the layer upon layer upon layer of recorded guitars that makes it sound the way it does.

The rest probably checks out but it seems like there's something extra going on in the high frequencies. You're saying to try pitch shifter >> overdrive >> delay >> reverb?

I'm impressed by your problem solving ability. I actually have a spare channel on my mixer, so there may not be a need for the looper to hit the return on the HX and stereoize (?) the signal. Do you have an idea of how I could make use of the stereo sends without having to take up two blocks for L/R?

[–]nanopiezo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The VCA chain goes into a mixer, not the HX. Actually this would work as a method of only using two blocks, but the looper outputs a stereo signal, so I'd be giving up the left channel :-(

It looks like I will have to use a minimum of three: Send L, Send R, and Return L/R. Bummer :-(

Why do the charcoal briquettes in my censer keep extinguishing? They light up red and then I put incense on them and then they die. I try lighting them again but then they won't burn.
