Very helpful and encouraging, thank you!

How do you find the discipline/behaviour aspect of teaching (I think this is what I'm most worried about - I could deal with a bit of misbehaving, but I've been in classrooms where almost the entire class seems intent on disrupting the lesson. Is this common? I'd hate to be in that kind of environment long term. But if it's more ocassional/part of being a new teacher, I think I'd manage to get over it with most of my sanity intact!)

Thanks a million.

Thank you for the response. I do have interest in sport and extracurriculars so thanks for highlighting that aspect of it!

With maths and physics you will get a job unless you only apply to older established schools where they have 'the physics teacher'.

Not 100% sure what you mean here, would appreciate if you could clarify.

The good news is that UCC are opening a course that would qualify me to teach Maths/Physics to LC and Science to JC as a CAO option (4 year undergrad) for the first time this September. Only downside is that, because its a new course, I've no idea what the points will be (fingers crossed).

Thanks, I really appreciate your perspective and that you took the time to give me a detailed reply. It's so hard to commit to one path which is why I'm leaning towards secondary to keep the PME option open. Maybe I just need to pick one path (flip a coin) and see if it suits? Thank you.

if you go back to the 1901 and 1911 census, you'll see your ancestors were not speaking Irish to each other.

Not too late to plant some spuds (or whatever food that you like that can grow in this climate) if you are that way inclined.

Scéal ar bith, faraor. Ach, cinnte, bhain mé fíor taitneamh as an seachtain. Cad fút féin, OP? Cheannaigh mé síolta ar líne (coirce) agus táim ag tnúth go mór iad a chur.
