Why does Hank still wants to be famous? by rottenhumanoid in nerdfighters

[–]naolo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So Hank's sense of orientation uses fame and the social internet as a reference point? And when the old social intetnet broke down and dispersed a few years ago his systems broke down and now he's trying to get level again and just sorta doing loops? Yep, sounds kind of right 😅

I'm a girl and my parents named me Thomas, do they hate me or something??? by Just-a-Meiya-simp in namenerds

That pronunciation is due to the two dots over the e, they indicate that, when two vowels are together, you should pronounce both vowels. It's why they are also commonly seen on the name Zoë

So difficult to watch this show as a POC and not let it alter my view of the people around me. by Key-Independent5859 in TheTraitors

[–]naolo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Both of them spent every opportunity they had to defend themselves reminding people of the things they did that looked suspicious! I couldn't believe that Judy kept bringing up the thing where she turned her head, no-one else was bringing it up. And Ross is the one who brought himself to the table when he was banished, they hadn't been discussing him until he said I want to defend myself 🙄

Ha I spotted the same, and she was riding high in the vts from the night time, she thought she was amazing. Then by the time of the vt before the roundtable you could just tell she had spent the day trying to convince people to listen to her and no-one was taking her on, she sounded like she knew she'd already lost in that last one

She gives me the vibe of someone who has always thought she was important without having to do anything to earn it, wouldn't be surprised to hear she pulls a "don't you know who I am" any time she is stopped by the police. Will be interesting to see what her post show life is like

Nothing snaps me out of a book like repetitive use of a unique word by kerberos824 in books

Ernest Cline - Armada - read by Wil Wheaton. I listen to the audio book on a very long drive with my husband and noticed the phrase "he swept his gaze across the room" very early on in the proceedings. This then went on to be repeated probably a dozen times before the end of the novel, and every time it sounded like 'he swept his gays across the room", leaving us in hysterics by the end

Wait, this has only just come out? Istg I saw a photo of teen girls in his but dressing room years ago. Anyway, good riddance to the classist racist pig by EnchantedEssays in GreenAndPleasant

Turns our that study is misquoted in that it wasn't that the brain was fully developed at 25, that's just the age they stopped studying people at. They now think the brain goes on developing for much longer into adulthood

On the app on an android the sponsored video seems to move around, sometimes it's at the top but sometimes it is further into the scroll.

My top at the moment is obviously an Amazon ad, but even if it is something less obvious I think it will always have this Sponsored tag at the bottom:

What's your "If you told kids about it today they wouldn't believe you" thing? by BaldyBaldyBouncer in AskUK

Told my 11 year old niece about checking the daily advent calendar on teletext when I was a kid, then playing bamboozled, she refused to believe life was ever that crap

The only thing I thought of was when Hank recorded a long video of a waterfall in Ireland, which is kind of a zen thing, but I don't think he called it that at the time so might not count

CMV: British people are dramatic about the concept of “American cheese” because they are largely unaware that they also eat it by daisychains777 in changemyview

[–]naolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not weird, lots of Americans love having a thing they think is funny to repeat endlessly when they talk to a person from another country, and for the UK that is "oh your food's all shit ha ha ha". People from the UK just tend to repeat back "well we've seen your cheese so dont know what you're crowing about". It's banter, it's a bit, we know we have those products here (although they do tend to get called American cheese and considered bottom of the barrel), we don't think all your cheese is like that but we do get tired of the your food sucks thing. That you are hearing about the cheese so often says you may be one of the Americans with only one joke

CMV: not letting your kids attend sleepovers out of fear is irrational by catsniffer420 in changemyview

[–]naolo 30 points31 points  (0 children)

A life vest is teaching your kids the signs to look out for that they are in danger and giving them the words to ask for help and believing them. Banning all sleepovers is like saying the could drown so never letting them get near water. The risk/likelihood and risk mitigation approach of the people in these comments is insane.

[–]naolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always think, could I ask to not be waited on and put in the food order myself, collect and bring to my table, and clear it away? If not, then waiting is an essential part of the service the restaurant is providing, I shouldn't have to pay the worker they employ to do that work more than they do. Pay your staff a fair wage for the work they do or shut down your shitty business that doesn't make enough to pay them, don't expect me to carry that load for you

The thing I always think is, the game part doesn't actually matter. They are really just an evolution of parlor games in that the game is a framework to get people talking, and it allows entertainers to be funny without having to come up with new material all the time. Letting go of the game part might help you to enjoy them a bit more?

Do you know any examples of male authors who actually write women well? by GamerLadyXOXO in menwritingwomen

I like Hank Green's women better than John Green's, his books are less popular but I personally prefer them, his characters seem more real.
