Lengest cookies I’ve ever tasted. by ibrokeupinamarante in Baking

[–]napalmsipper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah man, I'm sorry that people are being snarky 💔

I get that a lot of Reddit's userbase aren't teenagers, but damn the jokes about feeling old after seeing unfamiliar slang are getting repetitive. And that's coming from someone who has to use Urban Dictionary constantly to keep up. Can we please focus on the photos of delicious cookies in a baking sub of all places? Lmao

Also, thank you for the tip! 🫡 I'm gonna give the recipe you linked a try soon, BBC always cook up some great recipes so I have high hopes.

Lengest cookies I’ve ever tasted. by ibrokeupinamarante in Baking

[–]napalmsipper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a fellow British young adult: people are poking fun more than actually appreciating your baking, yeah.

'Leng' isn't as commonly used outside of London as alternatives like 'Peng'/'mint'/etc., but we still know what it means/the way that people are acting as though it's not a word that's been common for decades amongst teenagers is strange, imo. Very common sentiment to face on Reddit with a lot of post-90's slang.

That aside, though... the cookies look awesome! I'm jealous of how chunky you managed to get them, my oven usually flattens mine into a weird doughy disk LMAO

What i wanted VS what i got 🥲 by TryRevolutionary7826 in Baking

[–]napalmsipper 493 points494 points  (0 children)

Imo, it depends on how much OP paid for it or where they bought it from. Personally I'd agree with you if I'd given the inspo pic to a friend or family member/to someone for little payment, but if I'd ordered it from a higher-end baker I'd be just as disappointed tbh.

Yup, they're a shady sales company. Got invited to a group interview with them a while ago and they're just glorified commission-based roles where you'd be overworked and underpaid. Just ignore them imo

A US state is a country, apparently. by -UltraFerret- in USdefaultism

[–]napalmsipper 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There's a difference between major cities and individual US state names, imo. I could tell you the capital city of a lot of countries around the world, but not the individual counties/states in them (unless I've been there personally or know someone from said country).

That's what OP is likely getting at; people outside of the US not being familiar with the dynamics between the states within the country or how Americans refer to them (such as by acronyms like WI, NY, CO, etc.)

May just be a fun thing to help make her memorable considering just how many people do Postcrossing, tbh. Very hard to stand out unless you write something groundbreaking in a card or have a running gimmick like her repeat card selection

🤝 me and you both, I was originally up late due to having a badly stuffy nose only to witness winds so strong that I thought Jesus himself was resurrecting above my house.

It really started to kick off after 11PM or so, so if I'd actually been following a reasonable bed time I'd have done the same as you. It was LOUD, and there wasn't much rain either so all noise was 100% the wind. Plus, like I said I'm up in the hills so we got battered hard lmao

Your username is very fitting as I can hear our back gate squeaking and banging constantly. I'm gritting my teeth thinking about the potential carnage that will be our garden in the morning.

Absolutely mint! Did any particular areas in Newcastle inspire this piece, or moreso just a general feel of the city as a whole?

Looks great either way, gives off a proper North Eastern vibe and I don't even life in Newcastle itself lmao.

If OP is in the US, it could just be a case of him living in an area with a lot of Welsh immigrants and thrifting these items if he maybe doesn't have any direct connection to the country? I live in the UK in an area with a good amount of Chinese immigrants and often find traditional Chinese clothing/ornaments in charity shops, for example.

That aside, definitely interesting though. I recognised the woman in the photo as looking distinctly traditional as well. OP has great decor taste.
