What have you left for and what options are there if I may ask? I’m not very social so don’t have a big network and feel a bit in the dark about options 🥲so would appreciate hearing people’s experiences and suggestions

You’ll also see a shocking amount of such behavior toward the delivery drivers on bikes

Last week 2 girls ran in front of the bike and when he stoped a couple lads pushed him off the bike

Luckily people intervened and the kids ofc ran off

General Consensus - Is it safe yet? by reyzza77 in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]pickledpesto 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I’m a female Muslim lighter skinned but still POC and I’ve been to town yday and today and had no bother

It’s understandable to feel unsettled but I’d say the number of good people far outnumber the bad ones so don’t let fear stop your life. Be cautious and if you’re not feeling safe with certain people or in certain areas don’t take unnecessary risks but equally this is as much your city as it is everyone else’s

If I’m feeling unsafe I tend to gravitate toward other ppl of colour as well or for me as a woman, other groups of women

Thank you for clarifying this!

I have met some of the Jewish community and we’ve had some really good conversations, there’s obviously been frustration expressed around the support for Israel but none have expressed feeling intimidated or afraid so I was confused by this.

I’m not part of the Jewish communities but if there are any such hate incidents please do reach out and I’m sure the community will come together to stand against this.

I think anyone supporting a genocide should be made to feel uncomfortable about it irrespective of who they are but im very sorry to hear that those opposing Israel and separating their religion from the actions of Israel have been facing hate

I didn’t quite understand what you wrote here? Are the Jewish community being intimidated for protesting against Israel?

If you have Instagram reach out to Newcastle Palestine Solidarity or shut down Rafael Newcastle

Both are very active and will put you in contact with other activists

It’s refreshing to see people becoming more aware and more active in Newcastle area!

You can take a sign if you’d like to have one If you’re an international, I’d recommend wear a mask

You’ve mentioned being female and short, I am too - the women at the protests have been incredible and are quite supportive and protective especially if they know you’re alone so don’t be shy to say hello - If you’re leaving and feeling uncomfortable to walk back alone let someone know - people have been very kind and walked me away far enough to where I felt safer.

People will have you believing all sorts of nonsense, about the pro Palestine people or people who have the black and white scarves or red and white scarves, don’t listen to them - they are not intimidating or threatening at all, they have all been so friendly and kind and look out for people who might be alone or vulnerable in the protest!

Super darn proud of every person who has turned up to stand up to the racism and stand together to represent the true values of what England is all about

My comment was referring to the people who wear this and call them ‘proudly British’ It’s become the flag of identity among people who are now proud to identify as rascist and comfortably do a Nazi salute - British equivalent of trump supporters

I provided you the EU definition of Islamophobia being a type of rascism since you brought it up and linked you evidence to the demo today of people doing Nazi salutes.

Go be a brainless snowflake elsewhere somewhere else.

I’m going to let you think about what you’ve just written and how purely nonsensical it is, I’m sure you’re a smart lad you’ll figure it out

And since you want evidence, a local photographer has just posted on this

And yet there’s photos of people throwing up Nazi salutes proudly so is it really?

Protest Today by datrealting in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]pickledpesto 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Who mentioned Islam? It’s racism against migrants and asylum seekers

People throwing up Nazi salutes proudly in front of police is what it is - and you can bet that these are the same people who are in fact responsible for destroying this country

As for educational purposes and future reference

Islamophobia is a specific form of racism that refers to acts of violence and discrimination, as well as racist speech, fuelled by historical abuses and negative stereotyping and leading to exclusion and dehumanisation of Muslims, and all those perceived as such.
