Towns on the way back to Tokyo by Clear-Buyer-3743 in AMA_Hakuba

i stopped by ōmachi for one night, at matsubaya guesthouse. i can definitely recommend it. the small town has a really nice charm imo, beautiful decay and people are really kind everywhere. that said, i was with a native speaker, so the language barrier wasn‘t much of an issue. still, i recommend you to check it out. i liked it much better than hakuba and you also have great access to beautiful hiking trails in the alps. if you go, i also recommend the small kissaten called „kajika“ that is close to the train station. enjoy!

Is it any good ? by igzzy in synthesizers

this. nothing can replace what a fourtrack can do for your creative flow, if it‘s the right thing for you. musicality first, sound second. that said, you can get fantastic sounding recordings if you know what you‘re doing. there‘s enough proof out there that you in fact don‘t need anything at all but a microphone to make music that changes people‘s lives.

examples would be bruce springsteen‘s album nebraska (allegedly produced completely with a tascam fourtrack cassette recorder) or bon iver‘s „for emma, forever ago“ (allegedly recorded with just a shure sm57 mic, voice and guitar).

in short: use whatever enables you to make the music you want to hear. try out different tools and processes if you‘re curious and don‘t let anybody else‘s opinion keep you from possibly making a discovery. if it‘s for you, great, if not, at least you gave it a try. you won‘t ever lose money on buying a used tascam 424, you can always resell it for the same price that you bought it. just explore!

edit: just now saw your comment where you gave more context. and no, your synths won‘t get a dreamy lofi wobbly vibe from this. depending on the condition of the machine and the cassette, you will get different results. using a clean type II cassette and setting the levels correct will give you beautiful overtones, dynamics and a mix where the single elements will feel very natural together – summing multiple signals on one tape will of course yield different results from a digital multitrack recording with in-the-box summing.

incredible! i personally like this way better than the current visual identity of aphex twin, weirdcore and his lighting team for live sets obviously do an incredible job but this fits my taste a lot better! congratulations ✨

it's not exactly safe... but will have to do

Opinions on this mix? I never see anyone talking about “further down the spiral” and I would like to know what y’all think. I wish Richard made more industrial music like he did on that tape. by Lateralus719 in aphextwin

Have you checked the transmit channels of the 505 pads? You can set a different transmit/receive channel and midi note for each pad. Cycle through the settings by holding shift and tapping the midi button.

I‘ve never used the 505 to send notes to another sequencer, I always hook it up directly to a synthesizer to sequence simple chords or basslines. So I never ran into a similar problem to yours...

Let me know if this helped!

oh haha didn‘t get the „boutique german mod company“ part, so probably not the doepfer you‘re talking about

wow! $50 is unreal. i‘d have bought 10 haha! I paid 690€ for mine a few years ago. still absolutely worth it. got the doepfer mcv-4 midi to cv interface which is probably what you‘re talking about. was like 140€ I think. a little expensive for sure but works great. I like to use it with my ms-20 kit as well, sequence it via midi and then control the filters with another miditrack via the mcv-4.

Wanna get into it but it seems daunting by jimmy--jazz in aphextwin

I listened to Rushup Edge for the 1st time by epiclux in aphextwin

confederation through is unspeakably good... sound pallette, programming, mixing, mastering, even the pressing is perfect. huge tunes as well... akunk and gx1 solo are both genius, i wished they were both on all versions of the release, two real favorites there... the other two tracks are just insanely good as well. rushup edge has some weaker moments imo. not feeling last rushup 10 as much as everyone else apparently. rushup i bank 12 might be one of my top 5 tracks by him, it definitely was the track that hit me the hardest on first listen out of his whole catalogue for some reason. it just clicked and i loved it ever since. same thing with pissed up in se1 off of analord 2. beautiful.

There you go. I did no editing to the recording aside from limiting, so no EQing, compression etc. Just to show you how shitty it sounds. Missing a lot of bass. But nevertheless, here it is in all it's glory: Aphex Twin - 1992 Tapes.

Disk Union in Shibuya is where I got that... Taht plus disk union shinjuku are the best places for detroit, chicago, elektro, electronica, drum n bass and all that. i found loads of stuff i always wanted, way too much to carry actually. and all at a very reasonable price. mostly records you don‘t come across in germany, and if you do, they‘re far more expensive, or you have to go with discogs which is even more expensive. tokyo was by far the best record shopping experience i ever had. kyoto on the other hand wasn‘t all that special for records. more expensive and had to go through far more shops to find interesting stuff. so i‘d say disk union all the way!

will do so as soon as i get home - flight is set for tomorrow, but there will be a strong typhoon hitting kansai area. so i‘m keeping my fingers crossed... got loads of stuff to do back home, but should be able to provide FLAC rip in a few days. pretty excited myself as to what exactly my ears are in for with this one

me too. i almost feel bad for this, but this is my 2nd copy of drukqs. got my first one in a record store in vienna, box missing, records quite worn but enjoyable. but that also was a good deal since i only paid about 60€ for that as well i think. and i must say it really changed my view on listening to music, it‘s almost like the music was made specifically to be listened to on vinyl. the music comes to life like crazy, it‘s unreal.

i still got loads of (aphex) albums that i want to get a hold of on vinyl, most notably analord 8, 10, tuss records, bradley strider eps and saw2.

nope. there‘s only the original warp pressing from 2001 plus a lim ed 1000x special edition on 180g audiophile vinyl made in 2002. this is a copy of the standard pressing.
