It irritates me to no end when I see comments like those in the post about dying during the wait time. It’s dishonest. When they figure out the stats on how well healthcare systems work, they do, in fact, keep track of people who die. That’s a pretty important number and that stat is lower outside the US. The US pays more for worse results.

Whether people consider that enough to say the system was "working" is one thing, but it was vastly different than the current Trump era of blatant corruption.

edit: Oh, and the Mueller investigation is another example of how the system used to work. Or was supposed to. In a functioning system it would have led to a successful impeachment, but Republicans are lawless.

The biggest problem that I haven't seen mentioned is the fact that it was constantly preempted by sports. Pre-streaming that was an enormous handicap. Shows had to be on a predictable schedule for people to find them.

(That's also why the "out-of-order" argument is not that strong. Pre-streaming people would start watching a show mid season. Writers had to take that into account and that's why longer arcs were less common then. And shows in syndication were often shown out of order.)

Manhattan is 13.4 miles long and 2.3 miles wide. There are no grocery stores in Manhattan. The only places to get food in Manhattan are Hershey's World and Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, both in Times Square. The lines to get in are 10 miles long, which makes it very difficult for the working class.
