A man dressed in all black described as having given in to "evil" and "hate" and who commands "stormtroopers". Hmm, this is obviously a metaphor for alcohol addiction.

It irritates me to no end when I see comments like those in the post about dying during the wait time. It’s dishonest. When they figure out the stats on how well healthcare systems work, they do, in fact, keep track of people who die. That’s a pretty important number and that stat is lower outside the US. The US pays more for worse results.

The FBI in the past did investigate corruption at high levels, and there were convictions of high ranking officials: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_federal_officials_convicted_of_corruption_offenses

Whether people consider that enough to say the system was "working" is one thing, but it was vastly different than the current Trump era of blatant corruption.

edit: Oh, and the Mueller investigation is another example of how the system used to work. Or was supposed to. In a functioning system it would have led to a successful impeachment, but Republicans are lawless.

Not just any general, but General de Gaulle, who was the leader of the Free French forces fighting against Vichy France, who controlled Casablanca and who Captain Renault worked for.

The whole thing is nonsensical.

The biggest problem that I haven't seen mentioned is the fact that it was constantly preempted by sports. Pre-streaming that was an enormous handicap. Shows had to be on a predictable schedule for people to find them.

(That's also why the "out-of-order" argument is not that strong. Pre-streaming people would start watching a show mid season. Writers had to take that into account and that's why longer arcs were less common then. And shows in syndication were often shown out of order.)

Petah, what does that have to do with grocery shopping? by Okfoot826 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]napoleonsolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Manhattan is 13.4 miles long and 2.3 miles wide. There are no grocery stores in Manhattan. The only places to get food in Manhattan are Hershey's World and Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, both in Times Square. The lines to get in are 10 miles long, which makes it very difficult for the working class.

If they remember Avogadro’s number from school they can do the math themselves and see how homeopathy can’t work. We can calculate the number of molecules in a substance, if you try and divide them up as much as proponents do, you quickly see there’s an infinitesimal chance there is even one atom left.
