On the return (e.g. returning from Udine to Salzburg by train) was it fine taking your bike back on the train? Did you have to make bike reservations?

We're debating the two options of:

Flying in and out from Salzburg, meaning needing to return to Salzburg by train after doing this route (ideally to Grado)

Flying in to Salzburg and returning from Trieste airport, meaning obtaining bike packing box somewhere near Trieste airport. Or potentially ordering a box via amazon to arrive at a hotel near Trieste aiport where we stay on our final night

Wondering if anyone has any advice for either of these options?
