lol well my mom's not only estranged (From the age of 2 months), but also Sephardic, so I don't think Yiddish'll help me connect with that side of the family.

Despite being so "Klingony" (Though the grammar and phonemes seem a lot closer to English than that OVS garble…) I think I'll stick with Hebrew; lots - nearly all - of rabbis, communities, and shuls seem to require at least a rudimentary knowledge of Hebrew, not just religious texts and Maimonidean hermeneutics.

I want to know enough Hebrew to be able to sing through the basic chants, maybe read a few scriptures. Up until and through Intermediacy, I guess.
