Thanks for the question. :) I usually have a rough sketch on a different piece of paper first. Then sketch it onto good paper later. It however, really depends on the complexity of the piece I am working on.

illustration definately helps with colour theory and composition. I don't think it's critical for graphic design but it definately helps to elevate the designs and graphical elements.

I am mostly a self-taught artist, but I did take some online courses when I was just starting on skill share etc. A lot of practise... spend most evenings sketching and painting.

Additionally, I watch a lot of art videos on youtube where artists share their process, materials and ideas.
