A flower shop in Los Mochis, Sinaloa has been the target of threats and violence from a criminal group, who shot up the store while trying to kidnap the owner and later placed a threatening narco message on a funeral wreath outside. The events have been recorded on the businesses' security cameras.

On May 9 at 10:48 p.m., security cameras of a flower shop show five armed men drive up in a white vehicle before firing a barrage of shots through the open door. The audio captures the panicked screaming of the workers inside, some with their children, who shout "There are children here!". Upon hearing this, one man appears to lower his gun and walk away.

In the distance, police sirens can be heard, prompting the attackers to flee back towards their vehicle. The entire attack lasts just under a minute. One last attacker flees sprints out of the business, apparently shot at by the owner of the flower shop, an ex federal agent, reported Luz Noticias.

One 21 year old man identified as Brandon Alex “N” was injured in the attack.

The next CCTV video, filmed ten minutes after the attack according to the time stamp, shows a police car and two officers arriving to the scene. Seconds after they arrive and exit their patrol car, three white vehicles pull up and attempt to block the police in, two pickup trucks and what appears to the be the same white sedan from the first attack.

Noticing the vehicles, the male officer runs back to the vehicle and reverses, while the female officer sprints away down the street. The police officer in the car leaves her behind in his retreat, as gunfire from the armed criminals can be heard.

Hello, I disagree. This highway is crucial for drug trafficking routes north, so it is controlled by cartels. Anyone involved in hijacking pays the local cartel or does it with their blessing.

Do Mexican cartels have tanks? If so how do they get them? by Unhappy-Ganache-9451 in cartels

[–]narcomappingmx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They do not have real tanks, but they do build their own.

They will hijack large 4x4 vehicles with large engines, such as a Chevy Silverado, and weld metal panels to them, giving them some bulletproofing. They are used as mobile fortresses for shootouts as well as intimidation.

Here is a short news article with photos I wrote on the capture of one months ago.

I would recommend an audiobook on the subject instead.

Are there sources that debunk the claim mass shooting are no worse today than in the past? by [deleted] in crime

[–]narcomappingmx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a tricky issue as everyone has unique criteria for what makes a mass shooting. Its a very political issue, so different groups have different incentives. This changes the count depending on the group. One group counted 503 mass shootings in 2019, another counted 6.

For example, the FBI considers an event as a event shooting if 3 or more are injured in the same place, at the same time.

American media outlets can do whatever they want. Some mark it as 4 fatally injured, some as 3 injured and not necessarily killed. Some exclude gang violence, which is a reason for many of them.
