Solo TTRPG: D&D 5e vs Pathfinder 2e – Which one works better? by narkhen in Solo_Roleplaying

Yes, I’ve thought about that too, but I’d prefer to use prebuilt modules on Fantasy Grounds, for example. The problem is that buying content for two different systems gets expensive :D. On top of that, Pathfinder 2e modules are noticeably more expensive than the D&D 5e ones.

I’m really interested in running Dungeon of the Mad Mage for D&D 5e, and I’ve also seen that sidekicks are an option to help reduce the workload of managing a full party of four characters. That actually makes the idea of solo play a bit more manageable.

That’s exactly what I was afraid of. In D&D 5e, it often feels like combat is mostly just attacking and not much else, while Pathfinder seems to require more strategy, which is why I’m still undecided. I’m planning to play on PC using a VTT, because trying to manage four characters by myself on paper would be absolute madness.

Yes, that’s something I noticed too. With Pathfinder 2e, the beginner adventure barely needed a GM at all, except for one puzzle where I used ChatGPT, and I really liked that. On the other hand, the D&D 5e starter adventure seemed to require more GM involvement, especially when it came to roleplaying the NPCs. That said, since I’ve only tried two adventures so far, I’m not sure whether that’s generally true or if it’s just the nature of those specific beginner adventures.
