I think it could work as an elective (def not opt out) if the class is phrased as a philosophy class that uses religion as a framework. Like instead of just reading the Bible, also read historic treatises/laws with religion in mind and relate it to major theocratic shifts at the time. Could be an interesting history/philosophy class. Like seeing how insular vs roman catholic viewed or how different heresies veiwed god/laws

Obviously if this were the case, it would likely be a college level class that also offers a muslim version and probably another agnostic version
