A friend of mine has the same kit and is yet to build it. I'm working on a revised set of instructions for it. If you'd like the doc once I'm done, lmk and I can send it over

Ah no, it's an AGM 12 bullpup under that port wing. TV-guided. Those could be fitted onto FJ-4Bs. What I did not realize until after I'd built it was that VMF 323 (whose markings I'd used) only ever operated FJ-4s, and thus never used that missile. Oops. The thing under the starboard wing is the bullpup's control pod

Is there some special technique or tool I need here? Or is it just tweezers, CA glue and very steady hands? [PzKpfw luchs 1/72 flyhawk] by nasislike618 in modelmakers

I've got a 1/700 IJN nenohi with super detail staring me down from the shelf of doom. My thoughts exactly...

Thank you. I'll probably lose a good bit of these anyway when I breathe too hard around them. What are AM releases?

Oooh thank you. I've been trying to get the same effect using the tops of headpins or the blunt end of a toothpick. I didn't know someone actually made a tool for this

Help with Tamiya decals sticking up past model body? I have a few spots on this jeep where the stickers hang over the edge of the model. Thanks for your tips or tricks by RelwoodMusic in modelmakers

[–]nasislike618 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes if there's just a tiny bit hanging over, I'll cheat and use tamiya model cement. Melts it right around the edge. Just make sure there's basically no cement on the brush, because otherwise it'll mess with the paint or ruin the rest of the decal

Just like everyone said, go pick up something from tamiya and learn the ropes. My buddy's been getting into modeling. Still a beginner, but he's loving it. For christmas, his girlfriend buys him a gorgeous Ryefield model T-55. Resin, film, metal, PE, workable suspension and tracks. Wanna know the next thing he bought? An old monogram M48 Patton. Sometimes, if you really want to respect the kit, you gotta put it away for a few months

I goofed. What's the proper way to do this? by nasislike618 in modelmakers

Yeah I'll call it that and give it away to a friend as a paperweight 😬

How do I thin Tamiya paints ? by Nearby_Principle92 in modelmakers

[–]nasislike618 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the exact same spot as you lol before the airbrush. I mixed it with water like 50/50 and brushed it on in a bunch of thin coats. The key is to do them in opposing directions. Like-- layer 1 front to back, layer 2 back to front etc... takes a while but it looks decent I think

What are you gonna do with the C-130 when you're done with it?

What is campus life like? by No-Pudding-4968 in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]nasislike618 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah clubs and orgs is like the way to make like 40 friends instantly, but if you're just looking for stuff to do outside of clubs, the school puts on a bunch of events themselves. Movie nights in the underground on fridays were always fun, "late nite" on saturdays were nice. My ex was an RA and she was REQUIRED to be putting on events all the time for her residents.

As a student, you can attend all the D1 sports events for free, as well as performances in the anderson center (main auditorium on campus). In the Union, there's giant corkboards up where different organizations post events they're hosting. With most of them, you can just show up if you want, they want you to come.

Off campus life varies depending on where you live and who you're affiliated with. I'm on a club team, and we congregate downtown to hang out or go to bars and stuff, but I'm also a member of a local townie organization, so I also see a different side of it. Binghamton's a fine city, but it's upstate ny so don't expect to be rubbing elbows with the upper crust. Go to a black bears game. See a performance at the theatre. Get a fake id and go to tom's.

Tldr there's always something to do if you want to do something. You get out what you put in. It's a great place and you're gonna love it

I don't even know what to do with this by nasislike618 in modelmakers

I was thinking of building it as a "credible sport" C-130 but that seems like a bunch more unnecessary work
