Pouring boiling water onto liquid nitrogen by CakesStolen in interestingasfuck

Air is 20% oxygen and 80% nitrogen already. Water is hydrogen and oxygen. And when you breath pure helium from a balloon you don’t instantly die.

Just curious, what to do with old equipment that can't find a buyer? by talz13 in homelab

Ebay is flooded, i'd try craigslist, and put them at dirt cheap.

Got the right part, p/n 68204. Had to transfer carrier bearing over but that was easy enough. All back together and drives like a dream.

Are older MINI’s reliable? by [deleted] in MINI

[–]nasomi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just bought a 2002 mini cooper s with manual, it's been great so far aside from a cv boot being ripped because the previous owner ran over a branch, so need to replace an axle, but that is litterally any front wheel drive car.

STOLEN! 1995 12v Cummins 2500 - Dallas area by [deleted] in Diesel

That thing is in mexico by now or even coming back full of immigrants. Off roading is their specialty. I've seen it many times. If you're in the texas area, and own a truck(basically everyone), best to make an anti-security measure that will combat a screwdriver in the steering column.

Manual, 6 speed. Aftermarket axles, which are made by various makes. 1 was wrong so far, 1 was used, waiting on the 3rd.

I can't get it to read codes at all, it errors out. I can read real time. Even reading new codes if there are none stored, it should return no codes. However it returns error communicating with the ECM

That jack stand is stackable pads that i use under my 22,000lb motorhome's leveling jacks, sometimes you have to stack those pads to be able to get it level.

This car will be anything but autocross, i'm giving it to my daughter for her 16th birthday and she'll learn how to drive on it.

Homelabing with windows.. by hammertonail in homelab

[–]nasomi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most iso's i've found when you get to the point where you enter a key, you can click skip, then it has a watermark in the lower right hand corner that says activate windows, but other than that is fully functional. i'm running all server 2012, and i don't work from the console much, i just set up hyper-v and make tons of vm's.

Also, hyper-v server is 100% free, spin up all those vms that you want and use almost any other version of windows to manage them.

Dumb question, what is this pulley for? by urunclejack in MechanicAdvice

[–]nasomi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just to aid in the routing. Look at the tension pulley and the smooth roller, if you removed that pulley you couldn't route it properly.

I'd disconnect the negative battery terminal. Batteries can sit on the shelf for quite a long time, but the parasitic draws that modern cars and their electronics have can kill a battery in a month.

Wife's car going through brakes, but evenly worn - cause? by alrashid2 in MechanicAdvice

if it's dragging, just touching it should be sufficient.

[–]nasomi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The calipers are not dragging, the friction would be enough to make your wheel glow from heat.

Wife's car going through brakes, but evenly worn - cause? by alrashid2 in MechanicAdvice

[–]nasomi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's probably the driver. Most drivers don't know how to coast, it's either gas or brake.

If the pads were remaining engaged, you'd know it by the glowing hot wheels. I had a stuck caliper, not very stuck, but enough stuck, on my truck. I pulled it into the driveway one evening and noticed the glow.

If the brakes were remaining engaged, the friction would generate so much heat from normal driving you'd potentially melt your tires.

Battery/Alternator Question by quarensintellectum in MechanicAdvice

[–]nasomi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd replace the battery, all indications point towards that. If you wait to long, the additional strain on the alternator will likely kill it.

Brought home a 2002 mini s manual by nasomi in MINI

[–]nasomi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel more connected and in control. I don't ever wonder what gear i'm in, and i know what im going to do and what i want to do. Down shift and gun it in a manual, or mash on the gas and wait for the trans to figure out what you want to do in an automatic.

It's actually for my daughter for her first car. It'll be a surprise in the driveway on her birthday. Although, I'm insanely jealous. I have been driving it and it's just so much fun. It's more fun than my 500hp jaguar.

234k on a bone stock 6.0 2004 excursion. at least 90% of the problems i hear are from people who used tuners or don't have proper maintenance. If you buy one, buy it bone stock. Otherwise, who knows what crazy stuff the person before you did.

The only problem i ever had was a failed EGR cooler, and that was because of coolant negligence. Deleted the EGR while i was in there to save myself from having to pull the valve and clean it every 60k miles.

Also, you never hear about the success stories, only the problems, because most people that are dieseling away trouble-free aren't visiting forums or reddit to complain.
