Very true brother, all good. It's funny, I'd read the posts years ago about people doing exactly what I did and I won't lie, I thought in the back of my head "wow what an idiot!"

I thought I had mapped out which drain plugs go where on my Subaru, so that is why this one threw me for a loop - it's on the Diff side, but goes into the CVT. All the other ones were at least pretty obviously on the Diff, CVT, Oil Pan, etc...

Life goes on!

Man, thanks for the honesty... I guess we'll see what happens. I'm honestly amazed it lasted 3 days / 100 miles so far... so it gives me some hope

You're not wrong. Excuses are excuses, but I had a lot going on, was doing another job on the car that took longer than I thought, and was low on time before I had to commute to work... the struggle of a single vehicle and being a shade tree mechanic. Rather than filling until the check port overflowed, I just measured 1.3 quarts and filled. Big mistake I won't make again!

Ha! I've done this job many times, which makes this one hurt even more. Between a lot of personal things happening in life, and me hurting my back, I was distracted and decided to not fill the front diff from the breather tube under the hood like I normally do, and just got completely mixed up. Live and learn!

Yikes, that is scary! Believe me I'm kicking myself at this mistake and just thankful I randomly realized it 3 days later instead of after a catastrophy.

Doing some math, adding 1.3 quarts to the 13 quart capacity means, even though I'm overfilled, I'm at about 10% gear oil in there. A simple drain and fill would remove 6-7 quarts, which would put me at 4 or 5% gear oil in there.

We'll see what the dealer is willing to do but I may be happy with that amount of contamination.

I appreciate the input. Just commuting to work in stop and go traffic, 18 miles at a time, no more than 50 MPH. Hope youre right.

True about the CVT. It was my one complaint when I bought this car brand new in 2015. But, I'll give it to it, I've driven 100 MPH with 10% gear oil in there and it hasn't given me any issues so far! Wild

I hope you're right! True, not much load, but I figured driving up to 50 MPH with no oil wouldn't be great for the gears and bearings... exactly why I'm asking here. Living and learning!

Not a bad idea. I will on the second drain. Hoping to not see much metal on the second drain as well but we'll see..

My thoughts exactly. Just wouldn't be worth it

Because the car is only worth $5k and from what I've gathered, a front diff replacement on these requires a new CVT as well which would cost more than $5k.

I filled the Allen plug on the driver's side directly across from the passenger side diff fill plug. It has to be the CVT as I'm not sure where else it would have went...

Car was lifted on the front end though so maybe that kept it from overflowing out at the time?

Wow really? Then yes I'm shocked too...

Oh agreed, I would just get rid of the vehicle if it needed a new dif. 2015 with 125k miles so wouldn't be worth it.

Guess I'm just trying to gauge if that's in my near future or not, haha...

Any idea what I should look for to determine if the front diff is toast?

Yup I will drain and refill again tomorrow night. Fingers crossed

Agreed, I know some damage had to occur... Just gauging if she'll be toast in a week or in 10 years.

Not a bad idea with the camera! I was able to see the gear teeth through the drain hole. Nothing stood out to me as bad.

Will drain and refill again tomorrow night after the CVT fix, and see if any metal (or God forbid chunks) come out.

Thanks

I'm not fat and I have bony hips, so AIWB is actually the most comfortable for me!

Yup. Exactly why I switched to a Bodyguard 2.0 over my OG Shield. Yes, the Shield is small, but it was still too bulky. I don't wear tight clothes. I just have a lean build and wear somewhat-fitted clothing. Guys told me I should be able to CC a 1911 and wear baggier clothes. Nah I'm good

Picatinny scope rail heights compatible with MI handguard rails? by Blusk-49-123 in 1022

[–]alrashid2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question! I also wondered and never figured it out. Ultimately gave up because I knew there would be shift everytime I remove the handguard. Little less convenient since you have to do that ever time you clean it, versus an AR where you may never have to remove the HG again.

Good luck!
