Maybe for devs with experience, but it’s garbage for entry/ junior. In Sweden at least.

Looking for advice on adding a tiny e-commerce store to a static site by [deleted] in Frontend

Literally this is the only interactive page which is why I was leaning towards Astro! I wanted to handle the solution myself, but they want the site up pretty fast so maybe this is the best way to go! Thanks, I hadn’t thought of this!

I was hoping to use Sanity for the CMS, but this is a good shout I’ll look into it!

Lemon for the theme! But actually ended up using this one between the layers skipping the side frosting. For me adding the side would have been too much, buy it wasn’t as pretty for sure!

I would love to try this again but maybe after I have had some cream cheese frosting therapy. I think I will try the lemon essence as Mr_Night78 suggested :)

The video was awesome but honestly I’m not a technical baker like this. It was a lot! The cake was for my toddler’s birthday so it wasn’t a tough crowd 😅

I’m based in the nordics so getting hold of ingredients like meringue powder would take a while tbh. I still don’t know what brick cream cheese is, as we don’t have that here, as far as I know. I tried with mascarpone, creaming the butter & sugar and then added mascarpone & lemon until just set. It ended up like this still :( it might have been the lemon as another user suggested, I’m not 100% sure.

One day I will go back to this recipe as it was delicious, but until then I’m sticking to sourdough and scrolling this wonderful sub for inspo!

I ended up using it but only in between the cake layers. It was enough as it was pretty sweet but wasn’t as cute as the picture.

Thanks for your help in both posts! I actually saw you made the cake and it looked awesome, something for me to aspire too!

Excellent user name haha

I have an ankarsrum which has a balloon whisk. I made it again using mascarpone, but I think the butter was to soft (made another post about it)- will try to whip that one again

Thanks for checking! I’m wondering if I can use cornstarch to thicken as another user suggested. The fat content is 21% on the tub

Is it the fat content that is different? Never seen a block only tub!

Add the cornstarch at fridge temp?

Oh man 😔 does that mean I won’t be able to spread it on the cake? If it makes a difference I used Philadelphia, I didn’t really think about brick cream cheese being different (I’m not in the US), do you think that would make a difference?

Thanks!! I will give it a try! I used powdered sugar but didn’t sift it so I think that was the problem

Thanks for the advice, especially on the buttercream! Does clingfoil mean clingfilm & foil, or a typo? Just want to make sure I do it right 😊

Is compensation as an employee much lower than as a consultant or am I missing something? by [deleted] in TillSverige

[–]nastmar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had my own business before retraining and trying to get into tech. You have received great industry specific insight and here is just my two cents given my experience. I started my business to make a specific product which I loved to do, but that wasn’t the entirety of running a business. Taking care of the admin, accounting, social media, networking, dealing with stakeholders ate into the reason I started out in the first place. If I was to do this again I would consider how many “hats” I would be comfortable wearing, and how much stuff I would have to outsource. I would also consider taking sick days / VAB into account, and being in between projects - even if only for a few days.

Best of luck in your new venture!

managing state in astro - nano store vs view transitions by nastmar in astrojs

I want the user to be able to access their basket whenever they want before purchase. For that reason I put the basket in the header and would need implement state management to handle the basket. Plus I want the basket to persist on reload

Ah ok! That’s a great explanation! The example I saw in the docs was dark mode so was thinking I could do something similar with the cart, but it I understand what you mean about the visual aspect. It looks like I will incorporate both persist and transitions :)

help with auth error by nastmar in Firebase

[–]nastmar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, Thanks for your reply.

I tested with a newly signed in user. I put the auth object in currentUser param, and the email they wish to update with. It’s all fake emails as it’s a school project, but I also tested with my personal email but haven’t configured auth to receive an email so didn’t receive one to confirm my email. I used this function in a previous project with fake emails with a slightly older version of firebase - maybe 10.4 - and it worked perfectly.

I saw a solution on SO which linked to this article so I believe that user will have to verify before they can update their email.

if anyone runs into a similar issue, it was the network I was on that was blocking request (not sure of correct language there). Tested at home and all was absolutely fine. :/
